Find a penny... pick it up?!

Wow...  i saw this blog and had to share:

    http://foundmoneyjar.blogspot.com/

Found Money Jar is a blog of a guy who has been collecting spare change he randomly finds on the ground here and there.  I may have to look at the ground more often!

I don't have time to check out his blog yet, getting ready to take the kids to school. However, Brian and I have always picked up pennies, nickles, dimes, etc. from the ground everytime we see them! Afterall, Ben Franklin was on to something when he said "a penny saved is a penny earned."

I'll check out his blog in a little bit....after I drop them at school, and get my laundry started.

I glanced at his blog.  Some surprising yearly totals for an average person.

My Daddy was a letter carrier for 42 years.  When we moved him to town he had a box of pocket knives to rival airport security!  All found on his routes and there is no telling how many he gave away.

For years I wore a necklace with a watch face that he had found.  It was an expensive brand that he found in a puddle of water--still working!

I have his old mail pouch (attempting to restore it to some kind of suppleness) and the bottom of it was filled with necklace chains, bracelets, one of a pair earrings, and pennies.

I have asked him before and he said he has probably found hundreds of dollars over the years in change.  Once he found a $20 bill that he carried in his pouch for 6 months waiting to hear if someone said something about losing it.

I would pick up paper money, but usually anything else I would leave for someone who needs it more than I do. I'm not rich by any means but I don't need randomly found coins either. Edey

I don't often see coins or paper money lying on the ground so rarely pick it up.  In the houses that Les cleans and refurbishes, he finds coins all the time.  He comes home with a pocketful.  Once, my son found a coffee can full of pennies and brought it home.  I found a pint jar half full of pennies last week and added it to our gallon olive jar where we keep our pocket change.  I found a gift card in one home when I helped Les.  It was for Speedway and when I checked the balance, there was $10 on it.  They usually just toss the gift cards but I told him to bring them home to me.  I don't mind taking the time to check the balance.

I don't usually pick up pennies, but I will other coins.  When I was a single mom, there was more than one occasion when I had to raid the coin jar for milk and bread!  Just yesterday, I brought some rolled coins into the bank.  In just a couple of months, I had over 60$!!!

If you look the blog, he's also counting money from recycling found cans and bottles. Could that account for his highish average?

He might also be counting money that other members of the family find.

I always pick up change found in parking lots, etc. I see each penny as a blessing. Rarely is it more than a penny or nickel. I never thought about it adding up to much, just see it as, i don't know, good luck? validation that life is good? we live in a rural, practical-minded area so dropped/lost coins are rare, and lost paper money doesn't happen, lol.

I pick up change that I find. I don't find that much, but I seem to have good luck after I have found it.

I pick up any coins found and keep them in a plastic canvas house thingy... It's not too big and I raid it now and then when I need coins for anything, but I need to roll and deposit them the next time I go to the bank.
