Re: Beware of Chinese Electronics Store on Ebay
Yes our style is definitely called elcectic? I can't spell anymore! actually getting some decent sleep. after it the years of interupted sleep from the kids, it fuzzes my brain more to have decent sleep Our kitchen is a galley kitchen so no home for stuff in there. My mom gets lots of stuff from sally ann and thrift store and refinishing them. There is a few antique/vintage stores plus the thrift stores in New Westminster I have got stuff cheap and my mom refinishing them for me. Waiting for really nice pieces when the kids are older. The only really good furniture we have is the duncan phiffe? dining room set we bought after we got married. China cabinet, buffet, table and 4 chairs for $1600.00. Its nice not to worry about putting the first mark on it especially since literally as soon as we got it in the house, the cat used the buffet as a scratch post!

Re: Beware of Chinese Electronics Store on Ebay
Genesis 6:1-13 (Jewish Publication Society, 1985 edition) reads:
When men began to inrease on earth & daughters were born to them, the divine beings* (or: the sons of G-d) saw how beautiful the daughters of men wear & took wives from among those that pleased them.... The L-rd saw how great was man's wickendness on earth, & how every plan devised by his mind was nothing but evil all the time.... Noah was a righteous man; he was blamelesss in his age: Noah walked with G-d -- ...The earth became corrupt before G-d; teh earth qwas filled with lawlessness. When G-d saw how corrupt the earth ws, for all flesh had corrupted its way on earth, G-d said to Noah, "I have deicded to put an end to all flesh, for the earth is filled with lawlessness because of them: I am about to destroyu them with the earth."
Later, after the Flood, G-d promises never to kill all flesh by means of a flood again. The old spiritual says that there will instead be the fire next time. I haven't read Revelations, but I suppose that the idea of a fire consuming everything is in there.
The genetically-modified grains that are fed to the cattle that man consumes into his body affecting everyone of his cells including his chromosomes with their DNA that is patented (did you know that it is Venter's DNA? He was the 1st to map all of a body's DNA, & he used his own cells & then patented them.) are all chutzpah in the greatest degree ("I murdered my mother & father because I was an orphan." is claSsic chutzpah.).
The Jewish Prophets who were always aghaSt at man's iniquity would I believe work themselves up into far more of a fury if they knew what is going on now.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, His courts with praise; give thanks to Him, bless His Name. (Psalm 100) Yours in thrift, Deb Officially Recognized Stretchpert in Kosher Recipes See also my Food Stamps Living sub-Forum, both in Frugal Food & Cooking.

Re: Beware of Chinese Electronics Store on Ebay
My Bible reads basically the same, Deb. I'm not sure about the genetic mutation theory I told you about, but it is something to think about. Fire, yes... Revelations and other parts of the New Testament tell us the world will be cleansed or end with fire this time.
I didn't know it was all Venter's DNA, but whether it's his or someone/something else's, it's dangerous because we don't really know what the outcome will be. Genetic modification, along with cloning and heaven only knows what else they're doing by now, is perverse "science," and I know that I say that at the risk of being thought one of those people who said if man was meant to fly, God would have given us wings. We're overstepping the boundaries of life itself and there is nothing wise about it. Any prophet - any human being - should be aghast at what is going on now. It's scary.

You guys are so on point on the things we are messing with. And it seems like fewer people are even concerned about it.
Back to the China discussion. Um, we tried to boycott China and we actually succeeded for a year-about ten years ago. We were not into computers yet, though. The toughest part was buying shoes. It took us three months to find a pair sneakers that was not made in China.

Re: Beware of Chinese Electronics Store on Ebay
Pat:
"Buying American" is almost impossible any more, but we can at least try to deal only with those who are located in the US. I may be blasted for this, but I'm not too keen on a "global economy," anyway.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Exactly. And it's not just about getting ripped off from buying foreign-produced merchandise. It's about protecting American jobs and wages.
Every foreign-produced good that an American buys, reduces the demand for the equivalent American-produced good, and reduces the demand for the American workers who produce the good. Reduced "demand" for anything, including labor, reduces the price. In this case, it is the price of American labor that is reduced--the wages of American workers.
And if American workers in one industry lose their jobs, they become available for work in another industry, increasing the supply of workers available for that other industry, which also reduces the "price" employers must pay for workers. So don't think that outsourcing and layoffs in another industry won't affect your own job or your wages. It will. All American workers experience downward pressure on wages when outsourcing reduces demand for American labor, and when job losses from outsourcing increases the available supply of workers to take someone else's job.
It's time for the US to get out of all of its job-killing, wage-suppressing free trade agreements, and put tariffs of foreign imports to protect American workers from competition with workers making less than $1/hour.

It's far past time. It should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. It may be too late for a full recovery, even if we super tax oursourcing, do away with all free trade agreements and put tariffs on all imports.

Pat:Genetic modification, along with cloning and heaven only knows what else they're doing by now
This is kinda off topic, but this comment from Pat really hit me. People are starving to death every day and someone out there wants to clone humans?? That's like cloning mice because there's a box in a pantry somewhere that hasn't been chewed open.
In regards to not buying anything from China, one thing that really frustrates me is the concept of not buying from companies that do not share the same values as my husband and I do. It sounds simple enough, but how far do you go with this idea? Example: (Please keep in mind I'm using this only to illustrate my question) This video on youtube talks about a certain fast food company's policies in regards to it's employees personal lives - http://youtube.com/watch?v=tfb-ZJdK-wc
If this policy is contrary to my values, do I not eat there anymore? Are french fries going to cost me my soul? Or should this policy not concern me because I don't work there, but I could continue to eat there if I want to? I guess basically what I'm trying to say is if I spend time to research each and every little detail about a company before I can determine that I can buy from them, I won't have time to actually buy anything because I will have spent all my time "researching". Can I just walk into walmart and buy a 3 pound bag of chicken breasts or do I have to do research to find out if the chicken breasts came from a place that didn't treat chickens humanely or maybe the company did but the person that packed the bag that I bought didn't like chickens and was mean to them before they died . . .
This all made sense in my head . . . I hope it makes sense written down.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

That's like cloning mice because there's a box in a pantry somewhere that hasn't been chewed open. I don't think they want to clone human beings to populate the earth, but to create physical bodies to "harvest" organs from. Does that sound unreal? Then how about what I think is the ultimate (hidden) reason: They want to be able to recreate (or sustain by recreation) certain chosen families or people as a future "ruling class." Either way, the concept is chilling. It's something that I hope and pray is science fiction, but...

Meanwhile, Pat, without any need for cloning, by mapping the genome, it allows women to selectively abort children -- so that their surviving offspring will presumably be very smart & not susceptible t o any particular disease(s) that the woman dreads. Thta's bad enough, in my book. Of course, cloning IS worse .... Yours in Him, Deb
