I looked into it for us once we unpacked the kitchen last spring, but a lady at the farmers market mentioned a family member worked at A/F and recommended not to get it for the summer months so we heeded her advice, now kinda glad we did.  I do look forward to participating this fall and winter.  : )

No problems whatsoever with our July or August angel foods.

    Matthew 6:25-34 Do Not Worry

25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

I actually had some rancid meat in July.  It either had not been vac-packed completely in the first place or the packaging had been gouged open somehow and the ribs were rotten.  I now check all mine as they hand it to me to be sure it's sealed all the way around...Liz

I haven't touched the turkey at all yet so I can't comment on it.

I certainly do look at the menu before determining how much if any I am ordering. It's not a good deal every month for us. With the prices of meat lately though, the packages have been more appealing.

    Re: Angel Food

Hello, I'm new here and have a few questions about this month's Angel Food.  We've been getting it since March and so far haven't been disappointed.  However this month there was a package of Shelf Stable Milk.  I've never used it and also noticed it's expiration date had expire or I'm reading it backwards.  Also, did anyone else get the specials with the chicken.  If so, what is the best way to cook the breaded frying chicken.  Oven or stovetop and frozen or thawed.

Please don't think I'm silly for asking these questions.

Hi, Linda, and welcome!  No question is ever dumb here, I've found Smile

I baked my breaded chicken and it turned out very well.  It's even good cold for lunches.

The milk I simply opened up and poured into my milk jug.  It tastes the same as any milk, but I didn't want the kids or dh to shy away from it, so I just mixed it with my milk for the week and threw the container away.  I had to read the date twice myself, the ink was blobbed.  I don't remember the date on mine, but it wasn't past the date, I remember.  Just looked that way...hth, Liz

     Hi Liz,

I was concerned because the date on mine says 16JAN06.  I figured if it was ok I'd just use it for cooking.  As for the chicken, what temp did you cook it at?

The 08 on our milk is smudged a bit and looks like a 06 at first glance. I opened it, sniffed and sampled to be sure though. The shelf stable milk is what comes in WIC packages here.

Linda, I usually bake stuff at around 375 if I'm not given any instructions, and I've found some of the A/F stuff is unmarked as far as cooking info, so I'd start it at 375 and run it up a little if it seems to be moving along too slow.  I remember it taking awhile to brown up good, so be patient.

I'd bet your milk is okay.  Is it in a purple box?  It's hard to get used to milk sitting on a pantry shelf, I know, but I'll bet it's fine...Liz
