We were a little disappointed that we didn't get more veggies BUT it still is a huge help.  Do you know somebody who might be willing to buy the breaded stuff from you at a reduced price?

Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

I have wished the same but agree with you, it still helps.

I just keep the breaded stuff for meals for the kids and I or when I can offer smaller portions or a substitute to my husband. At times, I have ended up with far too much of something we don't eat or don't eat much of. When that does happen, I give the food to others. For all that we have dealt with, we remain financially better off than more than a couple of our friends and relatives so this is a way we can help those we care about.

Brandy, we bought two regular packs and I had to throw away the equivalent of one bag of the potatoes.  They were full of smelly soft spots and white blotches of some sort.  Other than that, I like the looks of it.

The seasoned chicken breasts look interesting.  Hmmm, the turkey breast just in the crock-pot, you think?  The p.b.bars I'll hold judgement on as I think I overbaked the last batch and they got hard.  Guess I'll actually read the directions this time :-)

Something new, our site now has a large sign posted over a big bin - it's for anything you know you won't use out of your package and it will be given to someone in need or a local charity.  I think that's a good idea...Liz

    Re: Angel Food

I was not overly happy about the potatoes. But then, they don't look worse that what the local grocery stores offer here.

I am not sure what to do with the turkey. It says something about pot roast on the label but I have never made roast with anything but beef before. The bars shouldn't have been hard. They are more like a cookie cake with extra toppings.

I think the donation bin is a fantastic idea! It's impossible to create a package where everyone will want everything in it so I never expect to see that.

Brandy and all - I used the beef stroganoff Hamburger Helper-type mix today for lunch.  Instead of adding ground beef, I used one of the seasoned chicken breasts that were also in this month's package.  While good, it is extremely salty - you could easily add to it an equal amount of your own pasta plus add more milk.  Even though the sauce mix is brown-ish and beef flavored, it worked with the chicken - I sprinkled some Parmesan cheese on top. The chicken by itself is good as well.

Oh, and dd made the choc p.b. bars - they turned out fine Wink   Liz

I was wondering the same thing about the turkey roast.  It looks so tiny, so I feel that it would look a little lonely in the crock pot or stove. Stick out tongue

Edit: I mean oven, not stove. :)

    Re: Angel Food

All - I made the turkey roast today and have to say I was terrribly disappointed.  It cooked in about 6 hours in the crock-pot, straight from the freezer, so that part was good.  The bad, it's predominantly, if not all dark meat and is 'pressed' together.  It's hard to slice, comes apart in chunks instead, and also has lots of gristle.  A shame, as the flavor of it seems good.  I've already set it aside to cool for the dog Ick!.  Ugh!  Hope someone else can give a better report.

Frugally, I will have to start giving Angel Food more study when deciding whether or not to buy each month as the last few packages have not had as much stuff that we like as before and the meat's only been mediocre of late...Liz

Lizzy could you take the roast and grind it for sandwich spread or slice it with your slicer?  You say the flavor is good, might be an option or two.  I have been told here not to buy during the summer months as most are not satisfied with the contents.

The dog's licking her chops, too late, lol!  Seriously, it was sooooo full of gristle and those tough knobs of dark meat, I didn't want to try to do anything else with it.  I haven't heard that about A/F in the summer, hmmm.  I was wondering if I just got reeled in on it, and now comes the poor-quality foods - I sure hope that's not the case, I really appreciate the price and the service...Liz
