    Popcorn

Ok, I have a really stupid question. How do you make popcorn? I don't have an electric popper and I don't want to keep buying the microwave stuff.

Any suggestions? I've never learned because I've never been a big fan, but the kids love the stuff.

     Thanks!

    Stove Top Popcorn

Pour 3 tablespoons of cooking oil and 1/3 cup of pop corn (white or yellow) into any heavy, 3 quart or larger pan with a lid. Cover pan and shake gently over medium high heat, allowing steam to escape from popping kernels. Remove pan from heat immediately when popping stops or it will quickly burn. Carefully pour popped kernels into large bowl. Season to taste.  ; )

You are welcome and remember anything that "sprinkles" can be put on popped popcorn. Cinnamon/sugar, parmesan cheese and Italian herbs, and meat rub, chili powder, taco powder, the dry cheese powder in mac 'n cheese boxes, grated fresh hard cheeses, dry jello, dry pudding mixes(instant), sweetened koolaid, etc.  And you can make trail mix with it from the odds and ends of cereal, pretzels, nuts, stashed holiday candies, mini marsmallows, broken cookies, chocolate/peanut butter chips, coconut, granola, raisins, dried fruits, etc.  : )

Brianschef, you always have the most creative ideas.  Thanks for the topping suggestions!  I have never made popcorn on the stove, but might have to try it thanks to you!

Your large black, cast iron skillet works good for popcorn too. You just have to practice to learn how much to put in so it doesnt overflow. But that can be fun too. A kitchen full of popcorn. It smells so good.

ARGH! I went to get some yesterday and it costs more than the microwave stuff. I'm looking somewhere else today.

Cnksmom, Try somewhere where they sell bulk goods, such as a natural foods store.  They often sell popcorn for about 70cents/lb ....  at least they do here in San Francisco at Whole Foods....
