I have seen the wringer that you pull/press to get the water out. I wish I had had one of those years ago when I was washing clothes in the tub with a plunger. I caused quite a few blisters ringing them by hand. I think the pull/press kind might be helpful, myself!

Time to join your local Freecycle.org if you're not already a member and post a WANTED:  Washer that works!

Haha! A good idea in theory, but our Freecycle group has a request for a working washer about every three days. Technically, we HAVE one that works - it just leaks oil and isn't hooked up yet. I just need a solution that will work for 6 or 8 weeks, and so I thought of the mop wringer.

Joyous, didn't you say it was now no longer spinning?  So, don't you mean that the water doesn't leave the machine?

BTW, Lehmans sells a wringer that is not a part of a washer.  http://www.lehmans.com/shopping/search/searchresultsmain.jsp?fresh=1&searchType=advanced&iMainCat=0&iSubCat=0&attribute14=0&attribute15=0&attribute16=0&RS=1&keyword=wringer

You might also check craigslist in your area?

No, it drains fine. The drum is no longer spinning during the spin cycle, so the clothes stay sopping wet. But there's no standing water in the drum when the full wash/rinse/spin cycles are done.

So far I'm still wringing by hand. I hate it. It irritates my hands, doesn't work very well for the clothes, chills my already freezing joints, and takes a lot of time. I need a tool of some kind.

I'm thinking about taking two plastic laundry baskets taht nest inside of each and drilling holes in the bottom one and putting weight in the top, putting the clothes between, and stomping it down. These are two baskets that aren't doing anything right now, so they're no real loss if this doesn't work.

That sounds like a good idea. I sometimes wash clothes by hand just because I want to (I know, I know...) and if there's something heavy that's hard to wring out, I put it in the bathtub and let it drain for a couple of hours. If you put it over something it would drain faster. It's surprising how much water will just run out.

Joyous..you inspire me with your ideas! Never would I have thought to use two laundry baskets to "wring" my clothes out! I love it! I know I'll remember that tip, should the need ever arise! Smile

Well, earlier today I almost lashed together two baseball bats to create "rollers" for wringing! It may come to that yet.
