i had purchased several ink cartridges for my printer in january. then my printer had to be replaced same brand different model. but the previous cartridges didn't work in the new printer. i tried to exchange them for ones that would work and walmart refused because i didn't have a receipt.  won't be buying cartridges there anymore.

    Re: walmart

I find that very odd. I know our walmart around here, their refund policy is this, no refund, no money back, just a gift card for the amount of what you would of gotten back either in cash or credit.

Couldnt you of just exchanged them for the right ones?

When did you try to return the cartridges? Many stores have separate policies on electronics, computer components and such.  I found the return policy for items ordered but it may be similar to the in store policies.

    ELECTRONICS
    • Computer hardware: Must be returned with any included software within 15 days of receipt.
    • Computer components and computer accessories: Must be returned within 45 days of receipt.
    • Computer software: Must be returned unopened.
    • Camcorders and digital cameras: Must be returned within 30 days of receipt.
    • GPS Units, Digital Music Players, and Portable Video Players: May be returned for refund or exchange with receipt WITHIN 15 DAYS.

    From Returns

    Re: walmart

Probably no need to tell you this – going forward, I'm sure you'll keep all your receipts.

However, back to your problem. Through years of experience – I've discovered that when I have something a little out of the ordinary, I call the store manager – FIRST. I only deal with people who are empowered to give me a 'yes.' Don't waste time with people not empowered. I find that when properly explained, without: anger, rudeness and investment in the outcome, you will be helped. Example: I had a fruit juicer which died in a matter of weeks and NOT only did I not have the receipt but I hadn't kept the box.   The Walmart manager graciously exchanged a new fruit juicer – without the box – using the box to return my juicer to the manufacturer. Walmart has a comfortable return-to-manufacturer policy on defective/returned products.

At the very least, you should have received new ink jets for the old (making up the difference, if any.) Your experience is really Walmart's loss. You will always have the taste of this experience in your mouth if ever you should shop there again. You will share this with others who will also be put off and lastly I read a statistic years ago, that when only one customer stops shopping at just one store – the loss to the store is in the many, many thousands of dollars over a lifetime.

If they had taken the loss of just a few dollars in taking back and/or exchanging your cartridges, and done it with kindness they would have made a great ally out of you. Lastly I learned another lesson – never stockpile ink cartridges. I had purchased several on line (far cheaper than in the stores) and my printer died and I was stuck when I bought another type of printer. As an aside, my local Walgreens now refills ink cartridges. Haven't tried them yet – but I look forward to doing that – as the cost of ink cartridges are now so high!

    I hope this helped.

I'm sorry that happened to you. While I have always had a positive experience when returning products I find that the employees at Walmart in Customer Service lack people skills.  It's probably the low wages they  probably just hire anyone.

    Re: walmart

I buy non-OEM cartridges from 123inkjets.com. They will accept returns forever (or up to a year - don't remember - never needed the service) which was a real plus in choosing a company. I stockpile because they have great sales (usually 20-30 percent off reg price) which saves 70-80 percent off OEM cartridges.  I never had any problem with their off-brand products and I usually get my order in 2-3 days.

    Re: walmart

My Michigan Walmarts are supposedly not allowed to take ANY returns/exchanges without receipts due to "customer deception".  My neighbour is a Manager at Walmart and he said that he has had people try and return items that have been bought at other stores.  Walmart had the open policy of accepting almost any returns, so people took advantage of that policy - if nothing else than for a store credit - but this still eats into the bottom line of the company's profits; how, I don't know, but that is what he told me.

After Christmas last year, I went out and bought myself a nice plastic box and when I walk through the backdoor, I put all my receipts in there.  I also ask for gift receipts to be attached to any gifts from family member or friends, because I had a heck of a time returning some duplicate movies we had received - they were unopened.

I had a problem with a DVD player with Meijers, e-mailed Meijers main office, the next day my local store manager called me and told me to bring the DVD player up and he would personally help me with my situaton.  If you cannot obtain results through the store manager, I would try this route next.  Just let the store manager know that all you want to do is exchange the old ink cartridges for cartridges that will fit your printer.

    Good luck

We experienced a similar problem because we had lost a receipt, however our mid-Michigan Walmart happily gave us a store credit so it worked out just fine.

    Re: walmart

Two years ago we bought my daughter a new cam corder for christmas.  She was studying photograpy.  We bought the thing on the day after Thanksgiving during their early bird sale.  She opened it Christmas morning and it never worked.  We tried taking it back to Wal-mart and they said it was past its 30 day store policy.  They suggested we send it to the manufacturer.  They also never repaired it or replaced it.  Even after numerous calls and visit they refuse to settle it.  We are out over $550.00 includeing film and camera case and battery chargers.  We have never bought expensive electronics from Wal--mart again.  Nor will we in the future.

    Re: walmart

Wow, our walmart let us return an MP3 player in mid January that had been a christmas gift. I did have the receipt, but still. It was a special deal so they would not give me cash back, but I was content with the money on the gift card. I gave it to my daughter b/c it was her present, after all.

My children both worked in retail for a time. People do things like buy things at garage sales with tags still on and then try to return them to the store to get more money than they paid for it. They also go down to the shoe aisle and put new shoes on and leave the old ones in the boxes and walk out with new shoes on their feet. So everything is ink tagged now. So the stores are having to protect themselves by requiring receipts.
