When did you try to return the cartridges? Many stores have separate policies on electronics, computer components and such.  I found the return policy for items ordered but it may be similar to the in store policies.

    ELECTRONICS
    • Computer hardware: Must be returned with any included software within 15 days of receipt.
    • Computer components and computer accessories: Must be returned within 45 days of receipt.
    • Computer software: Must be returned unopened.
    • Camcorders and digital cameras: Must be returned within 30 days of receipt.
    • GPS Units, Digital Music Players, and Portable Video Players: May be returned for refund or exchange with receipt WITHIN 15 DAYS.

    From Returns

I have found most stores have a stricter policy on the electronic type goods.  I sure wouldn't fault the store.  I'd fault the shady characters that have made it necessicary for the stores to have stricter policies like this.

I think it should be a requirement for everyone to work in retail and as waitstaff for a period of time.  You will understand many of the stores policies after a few hours of watching some of the stuff people try to pull.

i had purchased several ink cartridges for my printer in january. then my printer had to be replaced same brand different model. but the previous cartridges didn't work in the new printer. i tried to exchange them for ones that would work and walmart refused because i didn't have a receipt.  won't be buying cartridges there anymore.

My WalMart gives a gift card when I don't have a receipt.

123 has good service, so does LD.  If you want to buy a chip resetter and refill your own cartridges, I've had good luck with Printer Filling Station.

I keep receipts for everything for a year, and extended-warranty items for 3.  I scan them into my Tax file and into Electronic Booklets and Receipts so a second copy is available.  Big Lots will not take a scanned receipt but most other folks will.  If you pay with a debit card so you can ID yourself, you may be able to use a scanned receipt almost anywhere.  Big Lots cashier told me that receipts were being passed around for a refund and exchange scam so they quit.
