I've gotten a bunch of offers to transfer at 3.99 %, but after I figure the transfer fee cost, I decide not to. 3% or $50. It'll take awhile to gain back that fee, if I'm going from 10.99 to 3.99.

I agree-you totally have to factor in the fee when considering a balance transfer.  If you will have the debt a long time, it might be worth it.  If not, it is likely not.  The two transfer offers I took were from pretty high interest rate cards and high balances so now they are at low balances and have been for awhile.  It was worth it, even with the fees we had to pay.  Now I just wish I could get them paid off!!  Working slooooowly but getting there I guess . . . .

That's not too bad. At least if you have a plan to pay it off and follow through on it you'll have established credit.

our problems is just the lack of a larger sum of extra money each money. but working on it bit by bit. discovered that shaw has a new phone package. when we signed up for digital phone, they only had reg and lite package and now they have basic which is the phone plus call display which is all we need.  $4-5 savings a mth. small but something!

Now our balance has been knocked down to $5000 (from $12,000 in jan. 08). We had to slow down payments due to increasing costs - so we didn't get in a bind with bills and turn to credit cards to save us again (ha, save us! at 12 percent?) so it's progress. Someday I will be very proud to be part of the "NO CREDIT CARD DEBT" gang here. Smile

Pam- that is amazing!  I know you work a ton, but it seems to be getting the job done!

My debt is huge, I have shared the actuals here.  You should all be grateful that the amounts you have are managable.  I know it is all relative, but I think you are lucky to have so low debt.  ;-(  Of course you probably don't think of yourselves as lucky if you aren't working and carrying that load!  But... be happy its not double digit pushing triple digit!

Be grateful.  Everyday I try to be grateful that I at least have a job and woke up today - its another fantastic day to get out of this mess.  I know I can with a little hope and postitive thought.

Good attitude, dmc.  Keep your chin up; you'll get it knocked out.  I have about $8,000, but it is at low rates (2.9%-4.9%).  I plan to retire within 5 years or so, so that's what brought me to this board.  Time to get my ducks in a rowEmbarrassed  I'd also like to pay my mortgage off, but I don't really see that happening (owe about $49,000 @ 4.25%).  Maybe I can knock a dent in it, though, and then pick up a part-time job after I retire to make extra payments on principle. At any rate, it was a 15 year loan, so it will be gone in about 9 years without any early payments.  I appreciate all the helpful advice I've found on this board.

Thank you MazieMom!  I appreciate that.  I do try to keep a stiff upper lip.

I have been naughty, but not too naughty because when I looked at my budget last night I was down 1600.00 since May.  I thought that was pretty good!  Now.. I think in a month or two one of my cards will be paid off and I can snowball that to another one.  I won't be out of debt for a very long, long time.  But I feel pretty good about not getting in deeper.

Just now I had enough in my savings, 2560.00 to be exact to pay for the up coming year of daycare.  Now I could have forked over 270.00 a month, but that would have been magic, or I could have done the same thing I did every year before, put it on a credit card and pay no mind.

This year I consiously saved my tax refund and put little bit towards it when I could to have it ready for the big day!  That was huge.

I am trying so hard.  I had to use my card one time since March for a bill of 60.00 but that is it!  It was at a nice rest. and I had to do it. ;-)

Good luck with your mort. pay off, it would leave you in great way!!!!
