    TASSIES

You're going to be seeing a few of these around:

    TASSIE
    That's A Stretcher

It means that the post it's in has won an award. Sometimes it will be an especially enlightening post, other times, a funny thought or a very frugal idea, other times... well, other times we really can't tell what the spark is, but it will be good. The authors of those posts will receive an email with a choice of awards. We'll let you know which award they've chosen by adding it to their post, so watch for it.

And post away! You might win the next one.

I don't mean this as an entry into the "competition", but this tip came to mind.  Probably not many of you make your own "carbonated" beverages or even beer, but this is an easy way to wash those bottles that are so hard to clean, if  you are so inclined.
We have a bottle capper and caps, and collect beer bottles from others because the caps will fit those bottles only, not pop bottles.  Anyway, the bottles are a hassle to clean prior to bottling.  I tried various ways of doing it....bottle brush, rice grains, BBs, etc. etc.  Finally I came up with using a heavy costume jewelry necklace chain, hooked around a finger and swished inside the bottle which was filled with hot soapy water.  This cleans out the mold and detritus that has settled in the bottle.  Then rinse and boil if desired.
We used to make our own root beer which is far superior to anything you can buy, and is economical too (root beer extract, sugar, yeast and water).  Just an idea for hard core frugalistas who would like to make a great summer treat.

We do the same thing with beer bottles, only we make vinegars. I also bottle homemade catsup, mustard, etc.

This is what we brought back from Germany(about 75):
