If you watch the fabric store flyers you can find patterns on sale for 99 cents. I am stocking up on McCalls, Butterick and Simplicity patterns while they go on sale at Hancocks right now. I would never ever pay full price for a pattern. Eeeek, that would take all the fun out of sewing.

Aprons with bibs save so much wear-and-tear on my clothes - I am, apparently, a messy cook! I can't imagine cooking without one now.

I also wear a gardening apron and a "housekeeping" apron. Both have pockets to keep small essentials on hand, like a pen, my music player and headphones, and the like. I find having an apron on helps me stay motivated to work around the house.

    Hi,

Just wanted to add that I recently (yesterday) saw some apron patterns at JO-ANN'S. The Simplicity patterns were 0.99 cents on sale, and the fall and winter catalogs have a good variety. Oct 19-25 McCall's patterns are on sale for 0.99 cents, look for the apron patterns under crafts or accessories.

    Hope this helps!

    I wish I could sew...

You can learn, unless physically you can't. Look for classes, like at a community college, or Joann's, or ask a friend. Failing that find some good books at the library and go from there. You won't need a $1000.00 machine either to do basic sewing. Edey

I too, cook with a towel over my shoulder, most of the time.  When I take the trouble to wear my apron I do, however have a favorite.  I was visiting my mom and she had recently bought some funky 70's bath towels with great colors and graphics on them.  I had this vague memory of someone from my childhood wearing a towel apron.  It was super easy to make and easy peasy to wash.  For the waistband I used old quilt binding I had laying around.  You could use ribbon or double biased tape or whatever you have.  Make sure you've got enough room to tie it securely around your waist.  Loosely gather the towel (lenghtwise) and sew the wasteband on.  I tend to hunt thrift stores and garage sales to find vintage looking towels but that's just a personal preference.

I do sew aprons and I use a pattern that I made myself from an existing apron. I use aprons when I cook something that will get me dirty (like baking bread or canning), but if I'm just throwing something together for dinner I may not wear one. =) Gayle

Gayle - that's a cute picture of you and the boys. Are they twins?  Edey

    Edey,

I want to learn, but here in Miami, the least expensive class is $25.00... Not in the budget right now.

Even a the community centers the fees are the same. I will continue for classes that I can afford and that will fit my schedule.

I have purchased some books and plan to start there. If you can recommend any books, I will greatly appreciate it.

    Smile Thanks!
