    Luvd_Lioness:
If I am denied this next time, I am going legal. A friend of mine gave me a referral to a free law firm that handles disability claims.

Luvd, I saw you post a couple of weeks ago that you got a 2nd denial letter from SS. Were you able to hire an attorney to help you with your claim?

I haven't heard anything back from the free clinic (law service) yet... still need to fill out most of my paperwork and send it in so I can appear before a judge. If I don't have a lawyer by the time I get my notice to appear (since I hear that there is a long wait for a judge), I will be hiring one.

Re: Getting SS disability payments can be a fight to the death

I just got an email alert from Social Security a couple of days ago. They announced that have published a new "Strategic Plan" for dealing with the problems associated with  service to the public, and workload of their core workers.

They are concentrating on four specific goals:

    • Eliminate the hearings backlog and prevent its recurrence
    • Improve the speed and quality of the disability process
    • Improve retiree and other core services
    • Preserve the public's trust in the Social Security programs

You can read the whole strategic plan here:

    www.socialsecurity.gov/strategicplan.html.

It all sounds good. I hope it works.Wink

It is really good to hear that they are going to fix the system.  I'm in the process of applying for disability and haven't gotten the first answer yet on whether my claim is accepted.  I've been studying up on the claims process quite a bit, and there's actually a lot of "secret" kind of things that you can do to make your possibilities for being accepted a lot higher.

SSI doesn't tell you about them but there are a lot of sites out there with information.  I've been looking into the appeals process, because most cases go to the appeal stage, and sites like this one (disabilityappeal.com) have a lot of good information on how to properly appeal, and even end up winning your case instead of losing it because of doing the right thing.  Sometimes you even have to tell your disability lawyer what to do, they don't always know every trick in the book.
