Welcome to the gal from the UP...from a Northern Troll! We almost got dh a job up in Marquette.
I don't know how many jars of juice 100 lbs of grapes go into to. But last year I did 75 half gallon jars of grape juice from roadside gleaned grapes. The year before the deer got to them first, and I only got 18 half gallon jars. I highly reccomend doing grape juice. I can make the grape jelly from the juice late in the winter, when I have more time.

I've been doing lots of pickles this week, and tomatoes are rolling in-I'm making spaghetti sauce tomorrow and canning it. Pickled peppers too, and sweet corn is ready to freeze. Potatoes are completely done now and need digging, and put in crates in the basement.

Thanks! I prefer to call trolls 'downstaters.' Trolls does not conjure up a very nice image. I will probably not do grape juice from my grapes. My husband and I don't like it, so I don't make it. I will do jam and try raisins. I am hoping that the raisins will take a lot of grapes. I took a look at a large generic box of raisins. I did not try to count them, but I am betting that there are at least 200 in the box. It comes by weight not number, but drying them will take up much less space and I love raisins. I had a St. Vinnie's store save me any dehydraters that came in. I told them they did not have to work, but the trays had to be intact and to let my daughter know if they got any. She shops there once a week and they save her kitty items. In less than a week, they had one for me and only charged me $.99 for one with six trays. The heater on the dryer did work and I will use that to keep my chicken's water from freezing during the winter. I now have 16 trays for drying and can fit 8 of them into the oven at one time. The pilot light is hot enough to dry the items overnight in most cases. My house is going to smell like grape heaven while I try the drying. At least, I will try to keep telling myself that when I am loading the trays for the fifth time.

Cinnamonhuskies:half gallon jars of grape juice
Michelle, how many cups of grapes do you use when using the half gallon jars? Do you ever make jelly from your juice? (So much easier from juice, I think, than trying to make jelly from the whole fruit.)

Re: What have you put up for winter (from your garden, etc.)?
To answer the original question, we've frozen 10 qts of corn and 59 ears on the cob, 13 pts blueberries, 30 pts cherries, 3 pts gooseberries (just to try them-we'd never frozen any before. Turned out good:)), 16 qts various types of greens, some pea pods and some zucchini, don't remember how many; 22 pts carrots, 54 pts strawberries. We've canned 146 pts and 28 qts of nectarines, 28 pts blueberries, 12 pts of lemon juice dill pickles. We've dried I don't know how many pounds of blueberries, gooseberries, nectarines, apples, bananas, yellow summer squash, zucchini, basil, sage. Our green beans are just coming in. We have more than half our corn yet to do. We'll can it. We leave our potatoes in the ground until October. We just dig them before hard freezes because they keep well in the ground:) We usually buy a bin (18-20 bushels) of Golden Delicious apples for apple sauce every September. We hope to freeze and dry more greens--mustard, kale, bok choy, etc., can more pickles, and keep drying lots of stuff. Tomatoes are just hanging on the plants, staying green. I've talked with several people who say their tomatoes aren't ripening. daylily

Not much compared to folks on this thread! Ten pints of corn frozen, twelve cobs frozen, 14 pints of green beans frozen, 9 quarts and 4 pints of pickles, 8 jars of salsa, 4 pints pizza sauce. 3- 2 cup bags of shredded zucchini frozen. That's it so far.

I think it's 2 - 3 cups. I just fill the jars 1/4 of the way or more with grapes. I make the jelly from the juice, yes it IS much easier.

Re: What have you put up for winter (from your garden, etc.)?
I canned 10 quarts of spaghetti sauce yesterday, along with starting a 3 gallon crock of pickles. I put the recipe for brined pickles on my blog, Frugal Country Living. I hope they turn out good.
I have corn to freeze yet.
