    Food Programs

As more people struggle with the rising cost of foods, the need for cheaper food or assistance also rises. If you are in need, here is a list of programs that are available:

    Angel Food Minsistries

    Second Harvest

SHARE - please use your search engine to locate one in your state, there is no mother site

World Hunger Year  Lists other programs

Angel Food Ministry is for anyone---not just the needy. There is no income requirements for it. In my area there are alot of people who use it including me. For $30.00 you get a lot of food. JMHO

I would love to try the Angelfood  ministries but it's hard for me to remember to get to the local (church) distribution center the month before to pay and get put on the list. Perhaps I'll make it there eventually.

I think this is a wonderful ministry!

    God bless,

    Julie

    Julie,

Post the menu on the fridge and write the ordering and pickup times on a calendar, put pop-up reminders in Outlook, on your phone, wherever you can.  Find a friend and try it together.  Two or more people ordering will keep the dates and times and remind each other, otherwise the food is donated and you're out the $30, and we hope you're too frugal to lose $30!  Then, maybe fix meals together from your boxes.  It can be fun to shop together, cook together and eat together!

I have just tried Great Food for All www.greatfoodforall.com, presently only in Ohio.

Thanks for posting these, Brandy.  I think it's important to note that some programs are not government related and therefore have no income requirements.  That is, they are open to anyone.  It's not something people lock into for a year or anything, it's a month-to-month decision.  If there's a big expense coming up, like a major purchase, or if someone has just suffered a setback due to an unexpected expense, they can order one time.  I had some bix car expenses this past year, then a fridge, and still have some other things, plus I am getting older.  I see a friend of mine struggling because she is trying to live on Social Security and what little else she put aside before she retired.  She is depending upon these programs.  I decided, after reading the article in the DS archives, that I would use the programs to conserve now, before retirement.  Geeked

When i go to pick up my order i hand them an envelope with my name, phone number, exactly what i want from the following month's menu...1 regular box @$30 and 1 Special #3 @ $18.  Total enclosed $48.00...and seal the check inside.  They are fine with taking it from me that way and it means i only need one trip per month to the pickup site.  Because AFM posts the menus on their website, i can determine what i want to order before i ever pick up the menu from the site.

foodbanks.org type in the zip code of your area and it will lead you to the bank nearest you ,and it gives time and days on which the food bank is open and a food co-op -places may help but I need to look in food co-ops?
