Just use your blender. If needed, make it in smaller quantities for convenience.

I have an imitation MB blender, that has also served me ok. However, it has made so much good food for me that I felt really guilty about not having purchased the original. Also, I was very eager to read their recipe book. The recipe booklet that comes with it is excellent and is very motivating to use the blender. Another concern is that the imitation blender blade base has cracked and I am not sure how long it will last. It is really convenient to use, hence there is a motivation to use it more often.

I just went and got the magic bullet. It feels sooo good. It was on sale at 29.99. It comes with just the main blade and three other containers. But the rest is not used often and add weight. Also, if I feel like it, I can always gift this to someone else.

Isa really rocks when it comes to Vegan Cooking. Here is a good read about her. Also, checkout all the related links, specially at the end:

Thanks!  Those of us who have interest but not very much knowledge at all have to begin somewhere!

You are very welcome. Glad I could assist. I am still learning from several sources, Veganism itself is a very vast topic.

I just went for a long walk with my parrots and returned.  I reflected during my walk and then got a lot of FRESH ingredients to make Smoothies.

Then I made this smoothie: Bananas, Black Berries, Blue Berries, Plum, Hazle Nut/Almond Butter, Vanilla Soy Milk, Cold water.  Cameout excellent. It took 5 minutes to make it in all. Next time, I will try adding some small veggies.

I need some carbs as I get a hungry feeling if I just take a smoothie. Specially, atleast once a week I need some rice.

    Re: Vegetarians/Vegans

I've found that purchased veggie burgers are hit or miss when it comes to taste.  (I like almost all vegetables and am amazed that they can turn them into things that taste that strange!)  I discovered by accident that I can make very good ones at home that are MUCH less expensive than the ones in the store using my "oatloaf" recipe.  It's basically meatloaf without the meat--onions, parsley, salt, pepper and other spices (sometimes rosemary, chipotle, cayenne, whatever I feel like), oatmeal and enough water to cook the oatmeal.  Sometimes I add cooked white bean paste for more protein. When it is the right consistency to make into patties, I fry them.  They're good topped with grilled peppers, sweet onions and lettuce.

Do any of you have a favorite veggie burger recipe?

This is a nice site to use when you're visiting new places and want to find a healthy restaurant or health food store.

P.S.  I notice that this is under "singles only."  Luckily I am single, but I assume that was accidental and married people interested in this topic are allowed here too? Smile

What's your favorite website for buying TVP?

I actually never buy TVP online. Whole Foods sells it in bulk at really reasonable prices that end up being less than I'd pay if I also had to pay shipping. Actually, from what I've seen online, I pay less even without considering shipping (it's about $1.70/lb at Whole Foods).  Incidentally, Whole Foods bulk oats are almost $1.50/lb cheaper than the Safeway brand, too. Their lentils are more expensive, though.

Favorite veggie burger: Cooked lentils (I use any, but really like red), drained, mixed with some oats or bread crumbs, egg (you can cut this out of you're vegan--just add another binding agent like corn starch or egg replacer), a dash of Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke or hickory powder, and whatever other spices I feel like. Sometimes I'll also egg-wash the burger and roll it in pepper-cornmeal-flour before frying it, too. This is super cheap, too. Lentils are only $.89-.99/lb uncooked by me. This makes enough to feed an army if you use the whole bag.

I like this recipe because, in addition to being tasty, it has very high protein and fiber contents. I don't eat buns (I've never liked buns, even as a child), so I serve mine on red or bib lettuce with a slice of heirloom tomato, sautee'd onions and mushrooms, and a dallop of sour cream. However, DH eats them on a bun with the same veggies, but with tomato and ketchup, and loves them. So many options!

    Re: Vegetarians/Vegans

That sounds really good!  Thank you so much Falconinburgundy!

I'll definitely check for TVP and oats next time I'm there. Unfortunately I live about 1 1/2 hours from the nearest Whole Foods so that's why I was trying to see if there are any good websites.  I miss cheap gas!

Have a great rest of the weekend!
