Re: Flylady: Shiny Sinks and Shoes

I too am kind of jumping into Flylady.  I decided to do a general clear up of the house yesterday so I could be ready for next week and zones.  One thing that I used to do of hers, that I have now added back in, is the sink clearing.  It does make a HUGE difference to have no dishes and to have a clean sink waiting for you.  Makes you feel like you've made progress.  I love my dishwasher; use it daily.  I don't even pre-rinse the dishes unless it is something really sticky that won't wash off on its own.  As of yesterday, have now switched to my old (flylady based) system of washing the dishes overnight and emptying the dishwasher in the morning so that it can be loaded all day.  Sometimes, if I've cooked a lot, I have to run the dishwasher an extra time but that's ok.  It doesn't really take that much time to empty it so it can start being loaded again as needed.  The dishwasher is a huge timesaver for me; especially without the prerinsing (just followed the instructions in my manual for the right settings to avoid having to pre-rinse.)  Was wonderful this morning to walk into my clean kitchen and not have half of yesterday's dishes (that didn't fit into the days dishwaher load) leftover.  I'm going to keep it up!!

As far as getting dressed, I'm not sure it matters too much if shoes are on (mine usually aren't) but I do think that it makes a difference if you get up and get dressed right away.  It gets you primed for getting busy rather than just kind of moving along through the morning.  If I stay in my jammies, I do stuff but I seem to kind of be a bit lazier and go at a slower pace than if I get straight up and get dressed right away.  So I think getting dressed so that you are ready to go out makes a big difference in your overall attitude for sure.  Next week, I'll be adding in the morning bathroom wipedown to my daily getting dressed routine as well.

The one exception is the weekends!  Everyone deserves a couple of hours to laze around on days off!

We don't actually have days off from the regular routine of life. The company my husband works for schedules work seven days a week. Rainy days brings unexpected time off but since he has to wake and go through heading out to customer's houses or rescheduling rained out work, we are up and at it at an early hour.

We really need some catch on sleep and relaxing down time.

I was on the flylady list for a while.  I didn't like the amount of email.  However, the actual job tasks were superb.

I find that even though I'm no longer "flying", I have caught onto the habit of always keeping the sink clean and shiny.  It does make a difference in how you feel about your home.
