    Getting rid of Garlic Smell

Awhile back I bought a Bertolli dinner and stored it in my freezer upstairs. It must have had a coating of garlic on the bag... I now smell it from EVERY bag that I touch that was in the freezer at the time of the dinner. (Garlic is a Ick! smell to me).

I have put in a container of baking soda but it hasn't helped anything really... am now wondering if anything can help. (In short of washing the bags but we are talking of veggies and fruit and even my ice packs).

Am I doomed to garlic smell until the items are gone?

I was going to recommend baking soda but you already did that. LOL.

Well, I know that if you wash your hands in some lemon juice that it'll take away garlic/onion/whatever smell. So, maybe clean the freezer out with a mixture of lemon juice and water????

    God bless,

Newspaper will absorb lots of smells - I've never tried it with garlic, but if you have any around, it's certainly a cheap try.  Also vinegar will sometimes clear smells - then you have a vinegar smell, but that dissipates fairly quickly.  Activated charcoal is also good at absorbing noxious odors.

    Good luck!

This sounds crazy, but have you bought any of the old-fashioned clay kitter litter and put it in a sack in the freezer? I have been told that it absorbs odors.

Best of luck to you !

There is a special box of baking soda made just for freezers & fridges.

It's still just straight baking soda; the only difference is that you can open the sides of the boxes and there's a mesh there that holds the baking soda in.  I bought the boxes once, and every few months I dump out the baking soda and put in fresh - but there's nothing different about what's in the box, just the sides.

I cleaned my freezer the other day (had to do in short bursts since the cold hurts my hands) with vinegar water and did wipe down some bags of veggies that still have the residue of the garlic on them... threw away several bags of frozen fruit that was burnt (ick!) so I now have more room up in the freezer.

I am using an old container for butter-like spread with holes punched in it to "breathe"... filled 1/2 way with the baking soda. I use the "smelly" soda down the drain.

It has a now "new plastic" smell to it... I can't win!
