The windows are at least six feet long...three in the living room and two in the dining area.The front door has glass panels but there is a curtain on it. I was pricing for some curtain rods and curtains, I was up to $100 for the living room. I am hoping I can find something cheaper than that.

My husband's small repair to the vents seems to have helped quite a bit as did not having so many people in the house. I am able to run the AC on 75 to 80 again and still have it comfortable inside.

Blankets over the windows. They may not be very attractive, but they sure do work.

He spent $14 in supplies but that's cheaper than the electricity we would have used.

I may have to break down and turn on the AC where I am. It was so hot last night that I could barely sleep. This morning, I started sweating within minutes after I got out of the shower. When will this heat wave end?

Yeah, that's what I figured. I've made the "shade" recommendation to many people but most of them have homes with large windows and so when you are searching for specific sizes and/or large windows, it's much harder to go the cheap route. But, still, it made a huge difference (to say the least) so if you can find them and afford them, I say go for it.

That's the bad thing about living down here Brandy.... it seems like it'll never cool off!!!!

With the exception of the AC not running properly, I find this house easier to cool and more comfortable than the mobile homes we have lived in. Some of those were heat collectors!

LOL. Actually, though I'd rather the warmer weather than the cold weather in, say, Pennsylvania (where in husband is from and In-Laws live)..... I would still rather something a little cooler. It's the humidity that gets me! Perhaps just a little further north and I would be happy. LOL. It just seems like it gets worse every year. Also, I'll add, if we had more of a "winter" (versus a few cold days mixed into what is regular summer temperatures for the northerners) then it wouldn't be so bad. It just seems like we don't get much of a break anymore.
