What is your monthly grocery budget?

I've been hashing out a household budget today based on my income alone because my SO is stationed in SF right now and I'd like to *try* and live on my income alone.  I, of all people, am actually unsure of how much I spend on groceries a month.  I'm budgeting on spending $200 a month on groceries which is going to be a stretch because everything is so expensive here.  We are definatly going to have to make some sacrifices on high priced items like meat and dairy.  I have a monthly income of about $2200 and after budgeting in all the bills and the groceries there is a difference of about $700 in my favor, which is going to be saved and used for traveling back and forth from Dutch Harbor, AK to SF, CA at least every two months...SO will help cover half of the cost of the tickets.

I'm wondering what other families have budgeted for food.  I am buying food just for myself and my 6 YO son.  My parents live with me, but they can afford their own food.  I eat a strict diet due to diabetes so I cook all my own meals seperate from theirs and add additional carbs and fats to my son's portions of meals.  I may need to look at getting a second job in the evenings, which before was not possible because it would have increased the cost of child care but now with my parents living with me they can watch my son if I work evenings and weekends.  I don't want to work myself to death, but I might as well if it means I have more money to work with.

I usually spend about $25-30/wk., but I am a single person who lives alone. Your individual budget will depend on your family's needs.

I'm on Food Stamps and am allotted the max amount of $162/mo (which I get around the 13th). It's just me to feed.

I used to spend about $100 a month years ago before kids etc. Also where you live is the big thing too.   I am not sure of the total cost because I am tracking my spending but including all household stuff like laundry soap/pullups.   For 2 adults and 2 little kids, 5 birds, 1 cat (normally 2) I budget $600 a month.  DS is potty training so pullup cost is going down! $15 average a package. still in for nights.  The plan is $450 for groceries, $100 animals, $50 household like tp/detergent.  Will have to see.  When our homestay student comes back, will be spending more.

Now I have been spending a lot more lately but I am stocked up!  Will be changes in this house. more veggies less processed.

There are 2 of us, plus 1 cat.  I usually spend around $200.  So far this month only $36!!!!  I have decided to eat from freezers and pantry and garden.  Hopefully we can do the same next month.  The freezers are still full.

$350 monthly for Food only, family of 3 adults.  Sometimes we have $ leftover at the end of the month--this is used to restock items, as needed.

$50 monthly for Household and Toiletries.

Dear All, Just like Luvd_Lioness, I receive $162 in monthly Food Stamps.  Please note that I live in San Francisco, CA, where the cost of living is very high.  Yours in Him, Deb
