    Better Than Dryer Sheets???

I came across this tip from another site and thought I would ask, has anyone else tried it? I haven’t tried it but would like to know if it works.

    Better than Dryer Sheets

Put two bars of soap (one you like the smell of) in a tube sock, and then tie off the top. When you dry your laundry, throw the tube sock and soap into the dryer with your load. It not only does the job of the dryer sheet saving you money but it also helps lessen your drying time. And, yes, it can be reused for a long time.

I have never heard of this one. I recently sent my two blue dyer balls to the thrift store (luckily I bought them at a discount store) because they were constantly getting pulled out of the dryer with the laundry and didn't seem to make a difference at all in drying time when I was using my dryer.

I tried this with Ivory soap, and after the third load, the bar of soap broke apart and crumbled (in part) to a powder.  This powder ended up seeping through the sock and into the dryer.  Do you think it is Ivory soap that does this, or does it only work for a couple of loads?

It did seem to work like a dryer sheet for the loads the soap stayed together though.

I don't use my dryer very often, usually during a rainy spell when neither the AC or the heat is on. I have never tried "soap in a sock," but I have tried a ball of aluminum foil as well as the blue dryer balls. The aluminum foil ball worked OK, but fell apart after a while. I like the dryer balls. I was given them as a present several years ago, and DH and I think they work.

I can't see using soap in a sock but I did buy dryer balls from the dollar store. They did work pretty well except for a couple of shirts.  but they do escape with the laundry.

plus little boys run off with them to use as reg. balls!

     Hi!

I was reading your question, and not being from the US I wonder: what is a dryer sheet?

A dryer sheet is a disposable paper saturated with softening chemicals to help the clothes be softer and static free.
