August 1 Issue of Woman's Day Magazine

I subscribe to a number of magazines (I ordered them when they were really good deals) including Woman's Day. The current issue has a great article on Secrets of Extreme Grocery Shoppers on page 110.

Among the things I read was the fact that you can buy fresh produce at some of the dollar stores. The author found lettuce, scallions, a large bag of fresh ginger, five pounds of russet potatoes, and six heads of garlic in a mesh bag for $.99 each or $4.95.

Many of the things discussed in this article have been discussed here including how if you make up your menus and eat at home you will save $$$.

One of the things I like about this magazine is the menus for a month.

I believe that if you go to your local library, you can read this magazine for free.Wink

I would love to find a dollar store like the one in the article. Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and Family Dollar do not carry produce. Dollar Tree sells frozen foods, though.

I saw an article on the DS website or in the forums in the very recent past where someone mentioned buying food at a dollar store and they bought some really nice stuff.  Kinda made me jealous b/c I would love to have a dollar store around here that sold fresh produce.  We have a dollar tree store in our area that does sell frozen foods, canned/boxed foods, and fresh bread/pastry items, but no fresh produce.  I know they take foodstamps/ebt, too.

I have a Dollar General and Family Dollar near me. They both sell limited amounts of frozen food, milk, eggs, cheese....and expensive. No produce.

lol, just bought this one today. all about money etc. some really good easy recipes though.  12 easy meals was good and with normal stuff. read it in 1/2hr tonight.  I used to buy womans day and family circle all the time but not anymore. $3.79 a pop is too much (in canada)  and not enough info for the money.

That's exactly why I don't get magazines like Gourmet. I look for good deals on subscriptions.
