Arm & Hammer Rebate Rip OFF

Okay, I was / am so mad.  I went to the store and bought some Oxie Clean.  There was a little coupon that says if you buy an Arm & Hammer detergent with it you could send in your reciept and get a rebate for 3.99.

I did just that.... then I got back a letter saying I did not purchase the 40 OZ so I was not qualified.  I was LIVID.  I made sure to read the fine print but I did not see that.

I took a huge marker and wrote in capital letters across the letter RIP OFF and sent it back to them.  I am tired of getting ripped off by the fine print and loop holes in this culture!

    UGH

Took off ticker, because it's too depressing.
I will keep you posted when I can start making a dent. Right now, just trying to stay afloat!

I understand that you're angry ... but you just wasted a stamp ;(

By any chance, do you have a copy of the coupon?   Or even if you didn't .. send a letter directly to the OxyClean company.. Tell them that you didn't see any requirement that you buy the 40oz size of detergent and that you think you're entited to the rebate. Be polite, but direct. No guarantee, but they could decide to send you the $$ anyway.  (I did that with a well-known company when their toothpaste rebate didn't show up after 3 months. They sent a check and an apology saying they'd had problems with the rebate company)

Rebates can be profitable, but they also can be a royal pain ... I've read that many are set up to make you fail.  A suggestion: Make a copy of everything you send (coupon, forms, barcodes, etc) and hang onto it till the rebate comes in. (I throw all my stuff into a folder and check it periodically.) If there's a problem, you can refer to the material and appeal ..  or take it to the company. (Oh, yeah, I now staple the UPC to the form so it does't disappear ;)

I don't "do" rebates any more for that reason. They always find some reason to deny it in the fine print (and I've waded through more than my share of fine print). So when I see "rebate" in an ad I move on.

I know I wasted a stamp, but it sure felt good!  ;-)  I think I saved copies at work and I am going to look at it to be sure.  I actually think I did buy a 40 oz.   But my thought was... just send them the check.   If a person has gone thru the trouble, and actually bought one of your products, honor that!

I probably won't do rebates again!  Once bitten, twice shy as they say.

This happened to me repeatedly with Wal-Greens, but it does not happen now that I swithched to CVS.  I like getting the rebates or coupons printed our right then and not having to mail the others in and hope they come back.
