Re: Cooking and Shopping in July

Finished up the menu plan for the week starting Sunday.  Stopped at Bottom Dollar on my way home to pick up what I could.  Spent 57.67 and got the bulk of what I needed.  Best deals were:

    milk -- 3.99/gallon (only place under $4 w/o a major sale)

wk corn, black beans, chicken broth -- all under .50$ each

    3 pounds of flounder fillets -- 4.63

I still have to get my produce, but it seemed too far out to buy it just yet.  Plus, since I have to go to Farm Fresh for whole wheat flour I'll grab the produce on sale from there (2.99/watermelon; .98$ cantelopes and 1lb. grapes) -- all in all should be under $15.  I'll probably buy everything else from Kroger since I need to get DH's vitamins and gatorade and both of those items are on sale and I have coupons for the vitamins.

    Spent today: $57.67

    Total spent to date: $57.67

    Left in budget: 342.33

Spent $29.68 today between Trader Joe's and Target.  Decided to stock up on some pasta from TJ's as we have used quite a bit of what we have.

$487.26 remaining for July.  Should be good for a week or so now!

Actually about half the food has expired dates, but it seemed funny to get something so Halloween-y in the middle of summer.  We plan to take the popcorn balls for the fireworks.  Along with expired iced tea, sodas, and some non expired cheese crackers.

Today spent $ on food out- $16 for crepes.  Me and the seven kids split three crepes, we were at the mall with my sister from Green Bay.  Tried to keep it cheap!  Did not buy with the credit card, which was good, it was there, and I was tempted!  We split the following crepes- vegetarian Sante Fe, Chantilly with banans, apricot glaze, whipped cream and almonds, and a strawberry nutella one.

Got milk and food from the breakfast/lunch program with no money out.

    Total for the month- $16.

I was $72 over in June, but I'm still shooting for $160 in July.

Major planned expenses are: soda stock up w/Fry's coupon (preparing for back to school); $1.99/lb (98% lean) ground beef sale @ Sprouts, and chicken breasts from Costco (they are individually vacuum sealed, good size, and well trimmed). Other than that, it's yogurt and fresh produce.

Organic is over $7 a gallon. The regular store brand whole milk was $4.99.
