The first itme it rained, they were soaked and now some are mildew-y

I found that the clothes pins could be "rescued" by soaking them in bleach water and dried in the sun. They never look the same again, but they are improved.

I would be mortified if anyone saw them!  What I do though to keep from using the dryer for those things is use a cloths rack in the garage and that works fine.

My Dd would also be mortified, so I do as you and hang those items on clothes racks in the garage. Even with hanging them in the garage I hang her items in the center of the others in case we need to open the door for something.

Thanks for sharing that with us Rolo.

I love my clothes lines and yes, laundry day is Monday here.  I usually drive socks and undies in the dryer but everything else goes on the line.  I do have drying racks and use those in the winter.  I remember my grannie hanging clothes out, she never owned a dryer.  Never owned a regular washing machine either.  She had a wringer washer.

I was on the phone with a friend the other day and told her I had to go get the laundry off the solar powered clothes dryer.  She got excited and wanted to know what that was, where I got it, how much, etc. etc.  She went on UNTIL I felt sorry for her and told her that meant the clothes lines here at our house.LOL.   But if you think about it a clothes lines really is a "green" thing.  Using the wind and sun to dry your laundry for free.  And at our house, Free is a really good thing.

Good one Shellia!  I'll have to remember that one!

And yeah, free really is a good thing!   Smile

What a wonderful poem - who wrote it?  I think I'll frame it and put it in my laundry room!  I have a very small laundry room, a former bathroom and I hung a shower curtain rod between two walls so I can hang things on it.  I also time my laundry times so I can drape things over furniture.  I want to get a wooden folding rack for inside.  Cool

I have to remember that one! solar powered lol.   I don't care if my underwear is on show, they shouldn't be looking in my backyard lol. I have an umbrella clothesline and normally hang small stuff like underwear on the inside because the line is shorter.  prefer a reg clothesline though.

love the hanger bag idea. I have a lovely gingham smocked baby dress from dd I had bought from sears that I have hung on too. it would work great. have a nice tin at the moment I am using.

funny I just saw a commercial for clothelines in Ontario. about seeing more of them and going green.  basically to do it more.

too funny!  now hanging laundry to dry is "going green!"  it used to just be cheap!  idon't care if the neighbors see the underwear on the line- i'm pretty sure they know we wear it!       cherylm

Yeah, I just "let it all hang out" too. If seeing my underwear bothers them, they can just look the other way. :-)

Does anyone here dry stuff on a line in the wintertime? Seems to me it would freeze solid before getting dry... but i know people must have done it before clothes dryers were invented. Did they hang all their clothes inside, or what?

I have 5 lines in the basement that will hold about 2-3 loads depending on size.   That is what I do when raining or in the winter.
