Dear All, Luvd_Lioness wrote to me under the Food Stamps thread 10 days ago or so, that she buys Old Orchard frozen juice concentrates & that she knows that they are Kosher because they are marked triangle-K (K inside a triangle with a top point).  Today was the 1st time that I was inside a store that sells Old Orchard juices.  Yes, they bear a triangle-K.  BUT this marking is wrong.  The apple-cherry juice includes grape juice, which is so difficult to provide as a Kosher product (it requires Jewish supervision from vine to finished product) thta it is always nearly prohibitively expensive.  And the apple-cherry juice was not marked at, say, $7-$8/can, as it would be if the GJ were Kosher.  Therefore, I can only believe that the Old Orchard triangle-K on the apple-cherry juice is not valid (&, "to keep a fence around the Torah," that none of the flavors are Kosher.  We Jews talk about "keeping a fence around the Torah" as meaning to go the extra mile in observance, lest we unwittingly transgress.).  THis is not an isolated case; Kosher Jews rely on newsletters to know which products have gone into or out of Kashrut (being Kosher).  That is why Rabbis are the final authority on what products are truly Kosher.  Yours in Him, Deb

Is there any federal laws regulating use of that symbol?  Like organic.  It seems to me that they should for protection of the consumer.  It must be hard to keep kosher if you can't trust the marking.  Thank you for letting us know although I am not Jewish I have for some reasons been checking things just to know I guess.

Now, LexiJoJo, Yours is an excellent question -- I don't know the answer.  I know that the Kashrut certifying agencies can & do sue interlopers, but I don't know what legal actions (or what laws) they use as "ammunition."  The next time that I see reference to this in one of the Kosher newsletters that I referred to, I'll put what I've learned into a new thread on this Kosher Living forum.  Yours in Him, Deb

Dear Luvd_Lioness, I know a local Kosher certifying agency that accepts consumer inquiries about ALL the heckshers (Kosher certification labels).  I''ll phone them next week to inquire/complain.  Yours in Him, Deb
