    Hydrogen peroxide color-fast bleach

Dear All, What are the proper proportions of hydrogen peroxide & water to make a color-fast bleach.  I noticed when I was in Whole Foods that those are the only 2 ingredients in their color-fast bleach.  I assuredly will never buy OxyClean agian ...!

Dear Kabin Kathy, How sweet of you to Google for me!The link was actually helpful.  It said that large quantities of hydrogen peroxide are dangerous, so now I know that there will be much more water than peroxide in the solution.  Thansk!  Yours in Him, Deb

I just fill up the bleach cup with hydrogen peroxide - there's plenty of water in the wash to dilute it with!  I also put some vinegar in the fabric softener cup, and I'm going to try borax in with the detergent (or maybe replacing the detergent).  Then I line dry.  The clothes smell just great.  Sometimes we sound like an idiot detergent commercial, standing around smelling our clothes. Wink

That sounds great, Mulewagon!  Unfortunately, the commercial washers in our building's basement lack both a bleacn cup & a fabric softener cup.  On Friday (our every-other-week washday), we'll try hanging out by the machine, to time when to put the vinegar/fabric softener in.  (The hydrogen peroxide we'll mix with the water before putting the clothes in.)Yours in Him, Deb

    Re: Hydrogen peroxide color-fast bleach

Back in the Dark Ages I went to an Episcopal  boarding school. I hated it there, but that's another story..... .

One of my 3 roommates would bleach her hair with Moonsheen Peroxide. This same roommate managed to spill a bottle of Scribner's ink on another one of my roommmate's dresser scarf. I can't remember if it was black ink or if it was blue ink.  Another of my roommates grabbed the bottle of Moonsheen and poured it directly on the dresser scarf. To the amazement of us the ink stain disappeared. The only problem was the roommate who used to bleach her hair didn't like it that our other roommate used up most of the bottle of peroxide taking out the ink stain.

This same blonde roommate decided one day just before Christmas Break that she was going to go platinum blonde. In those days you could get a hair color by Nestle that came in capsules. It came in all sorts of colors. The directions said to use 1 capsule. She decided that 4 capsules would work even better. I wish that you could've seen the results ! It was too funny for words !Big Smile Her hair was a pale blue. Then she went outside. Don't ask me why it happened, but it was snowing and her hair changed colors again...... .This time her hair was PURPLE. My roommate who had removed the ink stain with the Moonsheen Peroxide took one look at her and promptly called her "Advent".
