    Patio Privacy Fence?

I live on the ground floor of an apartment building and I'd really like to enjoy our patio but due to nosy neighbors and loose dogs running around we don't go out there at all.  I was hoping someone could help me with a low cost idea to put a fence across our patio so we can enjoy it with privacy.  There are walls on both sides, and the patio opening is about 11 1/2 feet wide.  It definitely needs to be portable and we would like to be able to get in and out of it fairly easily to take out trash and such.  Any ideas?

You don't mention the height of the walls or the size of the opening.  Would the inexpensive folding garden fencing work?  It comes in a variety of heights.  Here is what I am talking about:  http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/(rxh2g355udarft45x2gcjx55)/ProductDetails.aspx?SKU=7015068  If the area is partly closed in, a baby gate might suffice?

I was thinking about covering my chain link fence to limit the visibility of the dogs (and hopefully some of the barking).  Last year I used the roll-out straw mats from Big Lots and put them on with cable ties.  The mats were only $1.00 each.  I didn't want to alter the ecosystem in my back yard by cutting off the wind.

You can always put up lattices for growing if it's allowed by the building.  I have seen people put strings up and down and grow a good amount of peas or beans this way.  It's a thought if there's a balcony above.

On my way to work each morning, there is a house with a front porch.  At the beginning of May, lace curtains go up and you can catch glimpses of the inhabitants and/or their pets enjoying the porch when a breeze is blowing.  I have been addressing the issue of porch privacy myself, and I like the looks of the lace curtains.

You can also get bamboo shades fairly cheaply at home improvement stores; I used these on my patio not for privacy, but to reduce light coming in through the sliding door that faced west.  They roll up and down easily, allow some air flow (although in heavy winds you might want to either roll them up or anchor the bottoms), and the ones I had lasted several years.  The ones I had came in 3 and 6 foot widths, although I think they also had others - since I needed to get on my patio to water my container garden, I got 2 3-foot shades so I could get out through the door more easily.
