I filled up this morning and it was $32 for a bit more than 8 gallons. I drive an 05 Aveo and work is pretty close, so that will last me 7-9 days. We are a one-car family as my husband is disabled and not permitted to drive. But that means that some weeks I drive a lot more. Once every 3 months we are required to drive to his doctor's office for a 15 minute appointment; the doctor's office is a good 45 minutes away and there are no doctor's closer to us that will take his worker's comp insurance. Still, his doctor has been generous because 18 months ago this was a monthly trip!
I'm doing an experiment right now... or really an analysis. There are only two main roads to get from my house to my work. My daughter's school is 3 blocks from my work and she goes there three days a week. I'm running figures to see which route is shortest distance with the average least amount of traffic light stops. From home to school to work on Route 1 is 7.2 miles. On my way home tonight I'm going from work to home using Route 2. I'll do the home to school to work on Route 2 and work to home on Route 1. Whichever way is shortest will be my most consistent route changing only when I need to make an additional stop on the way to work or home. Does saving a 1/2 mile make a difference? Some might say no, but really doesn't all saving start with humble beginnings.
