Ouch, which part of Northern Michigan are you in? My hubby is military and we are trying to get stationed up in Sault Ste. Marie.

I thought you meant you really had a heart attack.  I was thinking "wow, and she's already back home and posting.  That's AWESOME!"  lol.

I just put gas in my ford escape (which I'm hoping to sell.  I went to talk to some car dealers about trading and they pretty much laughed in my face . .. ) and it came to  50 bucks for 14 gallons.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

I filled up this morning and it was $32 for a bit more than 8 gallons.  I drive an 05 Aveo and work is pretty close, so that will last me 7-9 days.  We are a one-car family as my husband is disabled and not permitted to drive.  But that means that some weeks I drive a lot more.  Once every 3 months we are required to drive to his doctor's office for a 15 minute appointment; the doctor's office is a good 45 minutes away and there are no doctor's closer to us that will take his worker's comp insurance.  Still, his doctor has been generous because 18 months ago this was a monthly trip!

I'm doing an experiment right now... or really an analysis.  There are only two main roads to get from my house to my work.  My daughter's school is 3 blocks from my work and she goes there three days a week.  I'm running figures to see which route is shortest distance with the average least amount of traffic light stops.  From home to school to work on Route 1 is 7.2 miles.  On my way home tonight I'm going from work to home using Route 2.  I'll do the home to school to work on Route 2 and work to home on Route 1.  Whichever way is shortest will be my most consistent route changing only when I need to make an additional stop on the way to work or home.  Does saving a 1/2 mile make a difference?  Some might say no, but really doesn't all saving start with humble beginnings.

We fill up DW's smaller 4-door about once every other week, it has a 16 gallon tank so that one isn't too bad. It gets in the high 20's mpg.

What hurts is the 4WD pickup truck with a 28 gallon tank. We fill that one about every three or four weeks and try to limit driving it unless we are using the truck's capabilities. On a good day it gets 18 mpg but it carries a big load.

Gas is now $4.09/gallon so the truck can be an expensive fill-up!
