Scaling Mount Washmore today. Unfortunately, it is raining so no line drying and the three collapsible hanging racks I have are not nearly large enough for all the laundry. Since I do not plan to leave the house, there should be no money spent.

Love it, Colleen, "Scaling Mount Washmore." At first I thought that you were on vacation, LOL! Yours in Him, Deb

Vacation, oh how I wish, and oh how I need it! You got to keep a sense of humor about these things.
Last year, after a week-long battle of most everyone down with the flu, I couldn't resist the urge to answer the telephone with "Infirmary, Head Nurse speaking." Someone from church had called about some volunteer information and almost hung up, thinking they had dialed the wrong number.

Deborahmichelle:
Dear Erika Mama's Job, I don't know whether you consider Nebraska to be in "the Midwest," but I've been prAying for some time (3 weeks?) for the victims of all the Midwestern tornadoes. Guess to be accurate that I'll have to add, "the Great PlAIns ...." Yours in Him, Deb
Yes, some of us consider ourselves part of the Midwest and/or the Great Plains. Since we are smack-dab in the middle of the nation and we are part of the great plains, either title fits Nebraska. We are almost too far west to be "midwest" but we seem to get lumped in with Iowa and Illinois quite often. Thanks for your prayers. I don't know anyone personally (yet) who was directly involved by a tornado but I'm sure I will hear of someone's relative or friend who was affected.

Glad to hear that you fared well, Mamasjob! Hang in there Colleen. My day started off ok. I had to get up early to do some grocery shopping and spent about $42. I thought I was doing well. The other two kids came over this morning, and while they (including two of mine) were out playing, someone evidently broke the outside faucet. Water was gushing out. We filled up containers with water before cutting off the water main, but fortunately, the plumber was able to work on it this morning. So that was $147 which wasn't expected. At least we have a small emergency fund, but it's kind of depressing to see it go down. Our new puppy is becoming an escape artist today; I think I have the opening in the fence fixed for now (only time will tell). Will fix sandwiches for lunch, and we'll probably have fried rice for supper tonight. Hope everyone has a good weekend! PS- I forgot to add that we had to return a teacher's book to the school this morning! Kids, you really have to love them!

Re: Daily Dollar Stretching, Friday, May 30th, 2008
Today will hopefully be a no spending day, we spent enough last week. Our family computer died, so had to replace that. We knew it was only a matter of time, so had been putting money aside for that, and had saved more than was needed, but still hated to see the money go.
Added up the money spent on groceries for this month. I thought I had probably went over with all the stocking up I have been doing, but was pleasantly surprised to see that I had stayed within the budget, but have $0.00 left over. I round all totals up to the next dollar, so technically I was a couple of dollars under, but close enough to call it even.
Packed lunches for dh and ds. Dd and I had a mixture of leftovers and frozen taquitos for lunch. Ds had a bagel for breakfast, and dd and I had left-over whole wheat pancakes with the rest of the fresh strawberries. Dinner is home-made pizza for dh and kids, and a large salad for me.
I have washed and hung dh's work clothes and have a load of bath towels in the washer to hang when the washer is done. Still need to finish the bathrooms that I have started, but have no motivation to finish. I did manage to inventory the items in the garage fridge, so just need to update the food list. Later dd and I have to pick ds up from work, but that is about all I have planned to do.

Today is shopping day. Ew. My one dreaded task. It just takes me so darn long, and even thought its money that has to be spent...I hate to see it go. Then when I get home I'm big batch cooking, first a huge pot of red sauce because I came across a free case of spaghetti noodles. Even cheaper, a few weeks ago I came across a box of 6 cans of free stewed tomatos, so I may even add meat to the sauce since I'm saving on other parts of it. Anything else I cook will depend on the sales at the store, although around here there are rarley any good sales and the store doesn't take coupons except for its own. I need to get lots of sandwich fixings because today is the last day of school, so no more school lunches. Gotta feed the bottomless pit 3 square now out of the cupboards. This summer I'm saving oodles on child care by having my parents babysit for free, they are going to be giving up their efficiency apartment and moving in with me since my SO is moving to San Fran. My son will also be gone for the month of July. I'll either be very lonely or out of my mind with my parents bugging me. I guess its an opportunity to pick up a second job to stay out of the house!

Went shopping @ Walmart after I was at the chiropractor. (I'll end up paying him some $, but right now he's patient, especially since I see him next Tuesday). Got a big pot for a plant that I will be getting from sis if it survives (will see if we use it or I'll return it) and 2 bags of soil. Got more stockup tp... 20 (1000 sheet ct) rolls of Scott for ~$12 (it rated the price per 100 sheets as 6.5c) so I should be good for another 2+ years (seriously). I wasn't out but just felt it was time. Bought a couple food items: mini cupcakes (12ct), the big bag of cereal that was marked down 2/$7 (just got one bag and will donate it to the pantry), and Bertolli dinner (had $2.50 off coupon). Oh, also bought a hanging basket (won't hang though) to put outside my front door. I'm getting into this plant thing big time!!

Re: Daily Dollar Stretching, Friday, May 30th, 2008
Did a small amount of stocking up at Walgreens, since today only they had a $10 off $30 purchase coupon on their website and I had a register reward to use. Combined with in-store and manufacturer coupons, I got $44 of items for $19.91, among the items 2 Garnier Nutrisse hair color sale $4.99 had $3 coupon on each, so $1.99, the softsoap again using Easysaver $2 cpn so $0.99, two Move Free Advanced with BOGO cpn & $3 cpn they emailed me, Gillette Body Wash -- had purchased one when they were giving out a RR for a free one, so got the free one, Nutrogena product with $2 Nutrogena cpn. The lady behind me in line said "That's Fantastic!" and it made me feel like I had won a small award, but I know that others have done even better, sometimes paying nothing out of pocket. Still, it was my first "live" compliment on couponing. I should go once more tonight as it is last night for the Irish Spring and I recall someone saying on another thread that is something that can always be used (bar soap/body wash) and can't be bought with Food Stamps.
Filled tank as I was running almost on fumes, so $61 there -- $3.85/gal with the prepaid gas card from Marc's. I have not been to a regular grocery store at all this month, if I am remembering correctly. Have spent $30 for Angel Food basic box which I will pick up tmw AM and I think I bought an extra steak box for $20.00. (Guess I should also buy charcoal for a cookout, lol!)
Have to feed dogs then go to Home Depot or Loew's and make a final decision on a new fridge and find out when they can deliver.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
