    Wells Fargo

I've been banking at Wells Fargo for about 3 years now and for as long as I can remember they've NEVER charged me stupid little fees like they've been doing recently.

For example:   We have overdraft protection on both of our savings accounts.  IF we go over in our checking account they'll transfer the exact amount of funds needed to cover, HOWEVER they've been taking about an extra $10 as a 'fee' for making the transfer.  Huh?

They've also decided to put a HOLD on my husbands payroll check all of a sudden.  They've NEVER done that before either.  But we deposited it on May 19th and funds won't be available until May 27th?

Has anyone else had problems with Wells Fargo?

We bank with WF as well, and I do have to say that you really have to examine your accounts carefully for this type of sneakiness. I usually get right on the phone to a teller and they have found "ways" to avoid these "sudden fees." Usually it mean opening an additional savings account which I don't mind because I use savings accounts like folks used to use cookie jars. I have a fund for almost everything.

I do like banking with them for the conveniece and they are usually very good about waiving these fees. You do have to keep watching though.

I have not heard of this $10 fee, though, that's a bit disconcerting.

There is a bill before Congress - the Consumer Checking Account Fairness Act - which would limit the length of time a bank could hold a deposit, but it hasn't passed yet, despite being presented for several years.  It would prevent just such things as you are describing.

I have never banked at WF, and after what they did to me and a friend of mine, I never will; he was out of town and I had picked up his paycheck to deposit for him.  I went through the drive through, filled out a deposit slip, signed the check in his name with my name under it, and sent it through the tube.  Instead of getting a deposit reciept back, his check came back... in cash (over $850).  No ID was requested, his signature wasn't on it, nothing.  I asked why, and was told "because you didn't write 'for deposit only' on the check" (even though I had filled out a deposit slip showing that the entire amount was to be deposited).  I sent it back and asked her to deposit it - which she did - then went home and called the bank manager to complain, and to confirm that the deposit had been made properly.  HE WOULDN'T TELL ME IF IT HAD BEEN MADE OR NOT BECAUSE I WASN'T THE ACCOUNT HOLDER.  I pointed out that I was only calling because of his cashier's mistake in the first place, and wanted to be sure it had been fixed properly before it was too late - and he said it again.  I had to call my friend, tell him the whole story, and ask him to call the bank and confirm the deposit.  Apparently he gave the manager quite an earful in the process - because the manager's regional director called me to apologize.  Still, I will never bank there, based on that one experience.

oh yeah they're charging $10 now if THEY have to transfer money from your overdraft protection savings account into your checking account.

It also states it on their website about the fees they're charging.  They must have just started doing it because in the past there weren't ANY charges for doing this.  I went back to my '06 statements.

My credit union started doing that years ago. I don't think about it because I haven't bounced a check since wife #1 left in 1983. Wife #2 is a bookkeeper/accountant and she'd have my hide if I did anything like that! LOL.

Wells Fargo is the worst of the worst. Their attitudes towards customers is one of contempt, and total arrogance. They have absolutely no understanding of service or good will about any transaction, and waste your time with trying to sell you some of their "products" re: savings accounts or credit cards. If curses were real I'd heap it all on them. Can you tell I hate them?  I had to do business with them over my late father-in-laws finances, and it was an absolute nightmare. Edey

I used to be a wells fargo customer but finally got so tired of the constant fees ($5 for talking to a teller, $3 for calling the 800 number and talking to a representative) + all the little rules I had to satisfy in order to not pay a monthly fee for my account.  I switched to a different bank and I would never go back to wells fargo.  This was about 8 years ago so the fees are probably a lot higher now than they were then.  Anyway, I think maybe they don't really try to keep personal business and just are focusing instead on business accounts because there are much better banks for personal finance out there.

Our banking is through someone else, so I don't know that side of Wells Fargo.  We've used them for a mortgage twice now and we've never dealt with issues like this.  They have always been good to us.  I'm wondering if personal banking is just more of a sideline for them leading them to charge whatever they want without fear of losing customers because their bread and butter is in things like mortgages, investing, and corporate banking.

    Re: Wells Fargo

"Has anybody else had a problem with Wells Fargo!?" Man this might take a wile.... several years ago my wife and I had just bought our first house here in Des Moines Iowa, We were a little tight on money but getting by, our house had no AC, I did not think that would be a problem, untill around mid July when temps got up to the 100's for days on end, ad a newborn baby into the picture and I can tell you it was not a pleasant home. Anyway... I go to one of those Wells fargo loan offices and end up consolidating my exsisting credit cards plus borrow enough for a AC unit for our home.

Everything was fine... I was paying on time every month, then the phone calls started... They kept wanting to mess with it,lone me more money, get me to refinance my house. all kinds of crazy stuff. Every person who called was pushy, and kept tossing numbers and figures around at me like I did not know anything about any of it!  What all of this was really all about, was Wells Fargo trying to get their claws into my home, and set me up on a path to failure!

I always told them I was not in the market to refinance and if I was I would be shopping around fro the best deal, not taking some offer over the phone. Then this is the part that would really burn me up... several days after saying NO NO NO over and over again, I would get a letter from them saying my recent application for credit had been denied! Its like Wells Fargo had to have the final say every time.

Several years have past now... My loan with Wells Fargo has been paid off, I do have a car financed with Wells Fargo Auto so I still get a call every once in a wile but not like I was before.

I consider Wells Fargo to be a preditory lender. Not only that... I consider them to be the Devil! The address for their main offices here in Des Moines is 666 walnut st. Need I say more. Seriosly... I highly recomend people stay away from this Mega bank at all cost. Find yourself a small locally owned bank.

    Re: Wells Fargo

My husband and I were building our house a couple years ago and I needed to deposit a large check in Wells Fargo. I talked to them about it and they said because of my long time good standing with them that they wouldnt hold the check. Later I start getting all these letters in the mail about not having funds in the account to cover payments to construction crews. I found out they DID hold my check and when I went down to the local branch to talk about it they said well it wasnt us that held it... it was proof in a larger town. They didnt care about all the inconvenience and wouldnt take ANY fees off even though it was their mistake.

I also got sick of every time I went in there they tried to sell me another product. They were so pushy and one time went almost as far as lying when I wanted to buy a savings bond and the lady told me that a savings account with them had a higher interest rate than the bond. Good thing I didnt take her word for it cuz when I had her look it up it was not even close.

When I decided to leave them they didnt bat a eye. My account was like a small hair being lost off a dogs back.

I dont care if I have to keep my money in a vault in the basement I will never bank with them again.
