I like Walgreen's.There is one opening up less than a mile from my house and when it does, it will be on my list of weekly or bi-weekly stops, depending on sales.

Yeah Brandy, that is wonderful . I am really enjoying ours. It has been here for a couple of years but I never shopped there. Now, it is at the top of the list. This week they had ice cream and bacon BOGO. The price of one was higher than the food store but when you took the price and divided it by 2, it came out cheaper. DH favorite ice cream too. Ours has two shelves of clearance items that I always check for bargins. Babs

    Re: Where are you shopping?

Aldi is my favorite grocery store.  All the stores are all laid out the same so I can go in one anywhere and find what I need without any hassle.

The Krogers in our town has really given the new W-M Supercenter competition. The local Krogers is remodling, so there are mark down tables in several areas of the store.  They provide a free coffee to customers upon entering, and they  have a program for individual fund raising. I put my grocery money on a Kroger gift card at the service desk. It takes about 15 minutes to process while  I'm gathering what I want in the different aisles. Then at check-out, I pay with the gift card. (Kroger also has a "Kroger card", you need to scan to get the weekly sales.) Monthly, a percentage is sent to our church into an account for ds' youth activities. It isn't much, but it does help pay for church camp or tours the youth ministry has. I need to buy the groceries anyway, so this is "free money" for the teen activities.  Since all the teens in our house are grown now, I'll continue to use the fund raising cards for other teens who need help financing church  activities. The extra money will go directing into their account at church.

We have an independantly owned and operated IGA, that very generously donates to schools, organizations, and churches. They run weekend specials, that are very low priced. Just have to be aware and remember to purchase before the end of the day.

I haven't frequented the new super W-M much. Best consistant buy I've found is the frozen french fries for $.50/bag. Not a healthy choice, but dh & ds insist once in awhile. W-M has a huge freezer section, that encourages shoppers to buy prepared meals. A convenience, but very expensive, and you don't learn how to cook and use up what you have to make a meal. Foods in the produce dept. isn't a bargain, unless you just happen to shop when they put something on sale. Noticed they are offering strawberries for $1.00 a quart this w/e.

I purcharse most non-food items at Dollar General, Family Dollar, or Dollar Tree.

I shop mostly at Kroger (weekly), and Aldi (every 2 weeks or so).

    Re: Where are you shopping?

I go mostly to Martin's (same company as Giant Food) because it's close and has more selection than Food Lion or Weis's. Prices are competitive, and I wonder at the wisdom of burning gas to drive to multiple stores to save a a dollar or two on weekly purchases, although I'll admit I haven't "done the math" on it.

Walking to grocery stores is not practical in this area.

I do pay attention to prices and will use coupons IF it's something I was going to buy anyway. Sometimes they have a "buy one get one free" and I'll buy those IF it's something I will use.

albertsons:meats and produce, hit or miss on sales --awesome store, clean, and polite and helpful staff

winco: coffee beans that i love for 5.98 a pound, bulk spices, bulk baking ingrediants, occasionally frozen items --ok store, i dont like thier store brand items, have to bag my own groceries

riteaid:um i have lived here for 3 years, and ive only stepped foot in the one here 4 times, i use to love riteaid, but the one here seems dirty, uncared for, and likethe staff doesnt give a crap

walgreens:rr items, few canned and frozen items, rebate items, milk, gifts for people(hey how else do you use your rrs when you dont need anything and thye are expiring)--love this store, i have 2 but i like one better then the other, both stores are always clean, fairly well stocked and VERY helpful staff

walmart:i hate this store but if my albertsons is out of stock items, i can price match there, trial size items are often free there, cat food---local warmart has the worst customer service ive ever seen

fred meyer:way expensive overall, but has good sales on occasion, awessome mark down meats, veggies, organic bannanas for 25 cents a pound and occasionally good yogurt marked down too--love this store, great customer service always clean, and can occasionally find great clothes at better tehn thrift store prices

i also have a family dollar, a dollor store of sorts, a good will, a di, and another crap thrift store, theres abakery outlet, but they honestly are not any cheaper then the grocery store, i have a cool "salvage" store called westwood discount, i can get to all places by bus

Groceries on a weekly basis, are Albertson's or Smiths.  Smiths is cheaper but occasionally Albertsons has good sales or loss leaders.  I only go to one because if not I overbuy so I pick overall which give me the best deals.  I also have to go with a list and my partner to keep me on track.  I have no self control.

I also hit cvs weekly to roll my EB bucks.  Pretty much stocked up on everything so I only go for stuff that is free.  Occasionally once a month stores are Trader Joe's (love them) for dog food and some organic food.

We also have whole foods (too expensive same stuff at Trader Joes) wild oats (same as whole foods), walmart (not super center but a few groceries haven't had to go since I started CVS) walgreens (occasionally go for super sales but staff is rude) target (out of my way and not really needed) and a produce market (i go occasionally but although they are the cheapest for produce it is over ripe so needs to be eaten that day or next).

Oh I also shop quite a bit at the Farmer's market during the summer.  Love thats local but you do have to go for deals and know your prices.  Sometimes it's cheaper sometimes more then whole foods.

    Re: Where are you shopping?

Weekly: Grocery store (Hy Vee or Super Saver--both larger chain stores) Super Saver is local but has 4 big stores here.

Bi-Weekly: Walgreen's: personal care items, supplies, some food/snack items on sale

Monthly: Sam's Club, Target, maybe Wal-Mart. Mostly for diapers/wipes. Dollar Tree for lots of stuff.

Monthly: Local pet food store for special diet dog food

Super Saver is 1/2 mile away. I have 3 Walgreen's within a mile, one to the north, one to the west and one to the south. Their motto is to have "one on every corner" and they just about do here in Lincoln, Nebraska. I love my little Walgreen's store and shop there more often than the new, bigger store. HyVee used to be up around the corner but they closed the small store and built a large store 3 miles away. Wal-Mart and Sam's are about 3.5 miles away. Target and Dollar Tree are next to Super Saver (1/2 mile away) so on the days I need to hit all three, I can do it in one driving trip. My bank is in between Walgreen's and Super Saver so easy to bank on errand days.

Our dog is on special dog food and only carried at a local place (or some vet clinics). The pet food store is by DH parents' house so we buy enough for a month or more and then stop there when we are visiting DH parents.

We live in a larger city so all these places are easy for us. My parents live in a town of 6000 and my mom shops exclusively in town to support the local economy. They have a nice grocery store with deli, a large hardware/farm supply store, 2 dollar stores and 2 pharmacy/gift stores. If my mom can't get it in town, she either doesn't need it or waits until she has a doctor's appt in a larger city or comes to visit us (clothes/shoes).

    Re: Where are you shopping?

Aldi and Walmart is where I shop.

There is one other local store that I shop at, only when the sales are terrific.   I got chicken leg quarters for .79 a pound last week.   For this area, that is super.
