Well, I am 48, I have one child who is 9 in a couple of weeks and I have major debt.  About 90K

I don't want to give all gorey details, but suffice it to say that I am really, really trying to work it out without going BK.

Sometimes I think I should go bk because I am so old and should be putting that money towards retirement or ??

Well, I look forward to some support here as I wrap my arms around my mess!

Welcome. I am a newbie here myself, although a longtime subscriber to The Dollar Stretcher. I commend you for working it out on your own. You have come to the right place with all the expertise available here. I mostly lurk but that's only because the posts are so good and inspiring I actually get away from the computer to get moving and save money.

There are so many folks here with great ideas that can help you get on the right track.

Welcome! Smile You definitely will find support here in your endevour to become debt-free!

What things are you doing to start that on that road to $0 owed? I think that if you really strive to you can avoid bankruptcy.

Re: HI I am new here.... major debt load

    Great Question Luvd,

for the first time in my life, I am on a budget.  In March, I started to write down every single purchase, everything.  I got a good picture of the amount of money I took in vs the amount of money I spent.

For 3 months now, I have been monitoring DAILY.  I am improving each month.

I have actually created a budget for descresionaly spending and that included Groceries.  I have limited my budget to 250.00 a month.  I am using the money I used to spend and put that down on my cards, highest interest first.

I know its not going to be easy.  Changing my lifestyle and becoming frugal is going to be a challenge for me and my daughter.  Thankfully, she is a pretty great kid that has never been one to throw a tantrum, even if I say no.

I know its ugly, but it will get better.  Hopefully, the economy will turn around and stop making it so hard.  The costs of everything is really aweful.
