    The Prices Rose

Some of you have discussed my larger grocery bill with me. I have mentioned how prices are a bit higher in general where we have relocated to. I am here at my parents this week and decided to do some bargain shopping to stock the pantry at a lower price.

The salvage store had the same prices but it was packed and the shelves aren't offering as many options. The cashier informed me that sales have gone up drastically lately. I guess others have woken up to frugal food.

I didn't get many deals at the grocery stores. The prices are the same or close to what I can buy at the stores I shop at now. It's more convenient to shop at home instead of carry food from here to there.

It looks like prices have gone up everywhere. I noticed that the salvage store here is busier than before. There are very few really good deals in the grocery stores - at least what we're accustomed to thinking are good deals. Do you have a Big Lots in your new town? I've found some really good buys there lately.

Yes we do and in the same shopping center as the grocery store I go to. The deals weren't as good as I used to see at Big Lots but they may be because they too are going up.

Maybe we need to learn to define "deals" in comparison to other stores, rather than in comparison to what we've been used to. I'm afraid food prices are going to continue upward.

For me, Big Lots didn't carry many items that I was looking for that I couldn't get at Wal-mart or The Dollar General for the same price. Convenience however may have me shopping more there as I can still get something of a one stop shopping trip by going to the grocery store, Big Lots and Dollar Tree all in the same plaza. And we can avoid Wal-mart as a routine stop this way.

I suspect that merchandise carried, as well as prices, vary across the country. Price books are getting a workout right now for many of us!

We always do our main grocery shopping each Saturday, along with running our other errands.  We stopped at the Dollar Tree, Big Lots, Aldi's and the Mission Farmer's Market(usual shopping stores).  We did find one item at the $ Tree that was a good deal for us, but even the local farmer's market has risen in price for most items we usually buy.

Our price book has gone crazy as we are now trying to shop in the area we are at the time instead of traveling to each store each week.  Not so sure that is saving us on gas or time but it is a new method of shopping for us, which is our plan, trying new strategies.

Friday I had to go to pick up a prescription for DH & stopped in at the brand new CVS they just built here.  Now normally I wouldn't look to buy food products in CVS since I've found they cost more then the grocery stores but I needed milk & figured even if it's a few cents more it will save gas rather then driving 10mi to the grocery & then 8mi from there to home!

Well I was really surprised to find name brand milk was actually 10c cheaper a gallon at CVS then Foodlion the cheapest grocery around here!   I'm finding that I'm having to change my mine set more & more about where I seek out food type products.
