Money Tracker: Oh Where Oh Where Has My Rebate Gone?

There have been many discussions about what people plan to do with their rebate checks all over the net. Track your spending and savings of your rebate money with us.

So far the only priority item is a new lawn mower for DH. The self-propelled feature on the old one quit working, and he is wearing himself out pushing it around the yard once a week. That's not good in hot weather, and he's not getting any younger. Yesterday we went looking but didn't buy yet, he can't decide which one to get. He also was shocked at the prices; it's been about 15 years since we bought the old one. Other than that it will just sit in savings until needed for something. Edey

$1200 will go to pay of the last of our credit card bills. $7000 paid off since January, yea!

$600 will go into savings. We would like to pay cash this summer for the following (one, not both, depending on cash situation):

    1. A playset (swings, slide, etc) for the backyard for the boys. Priced anywhere from $199 to $499 depending on materials (metal vs wood). I have been looking for used but can't seem to find one fast enough before it is gone!

    2. A mini-vacation to Colorado (4-5 days). Denver is 7 hours west by car. We have family in Loveland and it's about the same time to drive there from here. We can stay with family 2 nights and friends 2 nights.

So, the $600 will sit in savings until we need it. After paying off the last credit card bill, I will have $500 in my budget each month that I had been dedicating to credit card debt. So I plan on beefing up savings with that.

I'm single, so I got $600.  I went to a family event that required I stay in a hotel; part of my rebate went to pay for the hotel room, and the rest went to pay for my car license and registration.  These are both things I would have paid anyway - but I was able to pay cash for both without having to take money out of my savings.

Re swingsets.  keep checking craigslist free section. You have to check several times a day to track deals. Dh just bought home the last pieces of the playhouse/swingset that someone was getting rid of on craigslist.

We have a metal swingset that we got half price at walmart early july. from $99 to $50. swings, slide, teeter totter.   I learned up here in early july all the summer stuff like swingsets/patio/garden stuff goes on for 50%. They put it in the flyer later but then lots are gone.    then fil won $500 on pull tabs at the legion the same day and paid for it.

Nothing difficult to track--$1200 straight to the savings account.

    Matthew 6:25-34 Do Not Worry

25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

So far I have done a little stocking up on food, splurged on the fixings for a dinner to entertain, went out to eat and see a movie for Mother's Day.

The remainder of the money is for truck repairs. I guess we are doing our part in boosting the economy.
