    Re: Tithing

    Joan of ark-

I would love to see how you make your income cover everything plus the tithing, and now the saving- are you hoping to save 10% now?

I would love to see your monthly budget if you'd feel free to post on third quarter budget-

I sometimes feel like we just can't make it, when something comes up, and I have never tithed.  I do a lot for the church, but am thinking if I want to tithe- I have never felt like it is something I necessarily want to do- do you tithe because you want to, or feel called to, or feel it's the right thing to do, or feel that the Bible says you should?  We also have an issue in our house in that dh is not sharing my Christianity in the same way, he comes to church, but has lots of issues with it-hard to give more when he's making the money and I'm giving it.

I also think it's funny when some rich people get attention for giving- and then you realize that they are not giving much in terms of hours worked- it's not much of a sacrifice.

    Re: Tithing

I suggest tithing only what you make and see what happens.  I would never tithe our money without John's complete support.  John handles the bills right now, Our bill paying systems are too different to match so we have to take turns.  Yes the goal is to save 10% of whatever comes in.  We currently live in an old farm house with -shall we say many issues but as it's my parent's vacation home they choose to let us live her rent free while we try to find a place- very hard to do in this area for a family of our size or they are total fixer uppers-more than we can handle.  Since they won't cut us off any land to build on I guess it's kind of like getting to use my inheritance now.  We offered but they insisted. One of many blessings....

ps when  I take over the bills maybe I'll post our budget.   As far as tithing goes I really feel that's something God wants us all to do but I would never compell anyone.  Our church does not compell either.  One saying is ( PLEASE NO ONE TAKE OFFENSE) if non tithe payers smelled like smokers the pews would be a lot emptier.

    Re: Tithing

I just read that in teh Talmud (Rabbinic Oral Law -- commentaries on teh Torah written at the time of Jesus till about 200 Common Era/A.D.) there is a tithing respoonsibility maxim.  "Donate 10% of your net income to charity.  Should you want to be genrous, do not give more han 20%, lest you come to need charity yourself."

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, His courts with praise; give thanks to Him, bless His Name. (Psalm 100)
