Rebate check incentives at the stores

Our grocery stores are having a rebate check incentive- buy $300 girt cards with proof of your rebate check, and they tack on an additional 10%, the $300 card is worth $330.  You can spend up to $1200, and get $120 in free money.  I might buy 2 cards, $300 each, at the compeying stores, one for me to carry and one for dh to carry.

Is anyone taking advantage of deals like this?

Two local stores are doing that incentive on the purchase of "new" cards not fundraiser cards that can be reloaded.

I haven't checked into it if you have to take your check and buy the cards with it or not.   I know I wouldn't want to tie up all of the money into grocery cards as I spend less than $300 a month at Krogers.

If the incentives were less than $300.00, I might bite, but like the OP, it would take me a long time to spend $330.00 at one grocery store.  I spend that much in a month, but at several stores, produce stands, salvage, outlet, bread stores, etc.  I don't want to tie up so much $$ at one place.

All the stores here are pitching for the rebate money - furniture stores and office supply stores, even one of the pet supply stores...Liz

NOPE.  Our $1200 is in our savings account where it belongs.

Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

I would be careful about buying a gift card with the icnentive money, because it is so much esier psychologically to spend from a card than from cash ....  Yours in Him, Deb

Which is exactly why the stores are doing what they are doing. It's another sucker punch to the consumer. Edey

One of our local grocery stores will give you $1350 in gift cards for your $1200  check. Menards (home improvement center) is doing something like 5% more than your stimulus check on a gift card.

Not something we are contemplating doing. Our check is going into the bank. Actually 2 banks. $1200 into my checking account to pay off our LAST credit card bill and $600 into our savings account. We will be debt free except for our mortgage! I cannot wait! And I have to since we are getting a paper check since we had to PAY taxes this year, ugh. I know there was a form but I didn't fill it out in time so we will be waiting for our paper check in a couple of weeks.

I have read (and agree with) accounts of people only using their checks to pay off debt. We are doing that. But it is the last of our debt which will free up $500 more a month that had been going to credit cards. While my goal is to put this aside to build up our emergency savings and 3-6 months living expenses, I know I can "stimulate" the economy in a small way by having more cash and less debt.

If my grocery store would give me $1350 for $1200 check. I would do that. I do not need to use this money . It can go in saving but I could save in the end to use it for food. That would be a litlle over 3 months for my groceries. That would be more than I would earn in interest in a savings account.Than each week , grocery money could be put in savings. I realize that everyone is not in that place but for me, it would make sense to do it. Babs

I just wonder about these cards....many gift cards will slowly decline in balance over time WITHOUT purchases being made .....So I would want to use them relatively quickly, and I can't imagine spending that much at one store in three months or less (unless it was walmart Embarrassed)
