Re: Gas jumped up this afternoon! What gives?

I know that the increasing cost of gas is affecting just about everyone but....

I commute to work... takes me a little over an hour to get there (due to traffic). I commute due to the fact that I work for the state (it's MUCH better pay and benefits than the private sector). But long term I will have to figure out something else. They do have some state jobs close to home but they are few. And right now we have a state-wide hiring freeze so no new jobs are being posted. But, especially because of the cost of gas, once the hiring freeze is lifted and jobs are being posted again, I will be applying for each and every state job that is close to home. Honestly, even if I have to take a small pay cut, it would be worth it for less aggravation and the money I would save on gas would be worth it.

IF I stayed at home, I know that I could respond to the increased prices by making less trips to the store, car pooling, etc. But with work it's just too hard. I think that if more employers offered more flexible working hours that people (including myself) would consider car pooling to work. But they aren't willing to budge.

It'll be interesting (and scary) to see how high it goes before it busts.

    God bless!

I was listening to a talk radio show today and people were calling in from parts of the U.S. saying it already hit $4.00 a gallon in places.   Also, they were saying that by this time next year, it would be $7.00 a gallon.  I know a lot of people that are taking public transportation to work, rather than driving their car.

I seem to have heard yesterday that crude oil is now at $126/barrel.  It seems not long ago at all that it passed the Z$100/barrel mark ....  Yours in Him, Deb  (Edited to fix the right amount.  I somehow had erroneously thought thta the price had passed the $140 mark.  SO, this news is a bit less dire than I had thought!)

I heard the news the other day and they are predicting that gas will go up to 7.00 a gallon by summer.  Until we stop going to places that are uneccessary the oil companies will continue to raise their prices and get their money.   We have become very dependent on instant gratification.  Why should I walk down the street when it's convienient to drive? This is all costing us.  We also buy to many frivolous things and then complain later.  A friend of mine who could have retired now decided to buy a very expensive car.  I asked her, "why did you buy that" she said because I wanted to!" Now this want is going to make her work several more years and she is constantly getting sick now.  She could have easily bought a little reliable car and saved the rest so she could retire earlier.

She told me the other day "you know Justice" I should have never bought that car.  What could I say to her but enjoy it.  She never saw this gas crisis coming. I feel sorry for her but too many people have that great feeling of want.  For me I walk more and take the bus however they are going to take several bus lines out now.  So what happens next?  There is a scary rumor going around about Detention Camps I don't know what the reason is or how true that is but this is not sounding good at all.  If you believe in prayer or positive thinking this is the time to do it.

    Peace to all,

    Justice

Dear Justice, The L-rd has counseled us not to believe in soothsayers.  I wouldn't be too worried about the prospect of "Detention Camps" that you cite.  Let us know whom exactly you've heard will be detained, so that we can comfort you.  Yours in Him, Deb

    rolo:

7:00am, Wed, May 7:  $3.51.9 in mid Michigan

    6:30pm, Wed, May 7:   $3.89.9, same locations

    Lucky Michiganders aren't we? Ick!

    Holding at $3.89 still.

We chose to go to a church that was 10 minutes away rather than the one we started attending that was 25 minutes away. Now THAT is some serious cutting back due to the gas crunch lol!
