Re: Cooking and Shopping in May

We spent $109.32 on Saturday. Budget is $400 for groceries so I have $290 for the rest of May. And I just realized that there are 5 Saturdays in May (I shop on Saturdays). But, the last Saturday is the 31st so we will have been paid and a new fiscal month will have started for us.

Some good buys: 10 for $10 rice mixes; 10 for $10 noodle mixes. I keep these on hand for quick side dishes and for donations to our food pantry at church.  Store brand pasta (spiral, spaghetti, shell) $.78 each. Bread: Oroweat 2 for $5.

    Supplies budget: $50

Spent on Saturday: $8.49 on pull-ups at Target.

Trying to stay on track for May!

Re: Cooking and Shopping in May

Free food and household items were great today, at a free food site-

    Here is what I got-

got at least $250 worth of stuff- including a 66 piece sample tasting box of Godiva pumpkin truffles, an Oral-B electric toothbrush, 4-4 packs of "nutrition soda," four bags of trendy flavored popcorn, two big grocery bags 1/2 full of Double Bubble gum, a ceramic pasta dish, nutrisystem food and snacks, four packs of peppercorn and garlic hummus, 5 boxes of crackers-4 Zesta and one family size Triscuit, 12 good quality Giilette men's disposable razors,  soap, 4 body wash, 2 shampoo, Scope, 2 dental floss, candy corn, 2 loaves nice bread, pickles, 10 cans of tomatoes, two toothpaste, four giant bags of Malt-O- Meal Colossal Crunch, 10 lbs of parmesean peppercorn rotessiere seasoning-which I hope tastes good on potatoes as we are vegetarian, two bags of Japanese style bread crumbs, hair spray and Kan-dos wipes for kids.

So far this month I've spent about $90, I think, and with the deals at Walgreens this week and  this food I am sure we'll make our $300.  I literally had a grocery cart full of  goods I could not have ever afforded, I am very grateful to the companies and the food bank and the church.  The kids had a high sugar dinner, we had truffles and cereal and crackers and hummus!

     Staying on track!

Re: Cooking and Shopping in May

This morning I spent 30.82 at walgreen for a few cleaning and h&b supplies (see the walgreens post)

I also stopped at albertsons.  They had general mills cereal $1 a box when you bought 10, and I had  3.10 worth of coupons so I bought 10 boxes of cereal at the final price of .69 a box.   I have more general mills cereal coupons (7.70 if I can use them all) but they were out of the specific types I needed, so I will try back Saturday after thier truck arrives.  I also bought bannanas, a honeydew, and red grapes for a total of 33.24 in card savings. 3.10 in coupons and 20.86 out of pocket.

    Spent  51.68

remaining: 148.52  plus 20.00 in register rewards.

We don't really need much other than frozen veggies so we should be good for awhileother than stocking up on sales, but we will be going over budget on petrol this month...

Re: Cooking and Shopping in May

On tuesday I spent $81.55, was customer appreciation day and you got 10% off your bill.  They ended up having the stuff I needed on sale like juice boxes so delayed a trip to costco plus fancy feast on sale so no trip to walmart.   so between, the cheap tp on sale $4.99 for 12 dlbe rolls (limit 4 so bought 4) dairy stuff, fancy feast, some choc, juice boxes, bread etc. plus fruit red grapes 1.29 lb, lge sweet oranges .69 lb. my favorite snuggle fabric softener still had a couple left at 50% so bought one more.  saved about $50 in sales and discounts.  Went to IGAspent 18.03 after to pick up the 1.99 /10lbs potatoes plus pickles etc that I was going to get at costco. also got a greek marinde mix and cheese strings, bought fuji apples $2 for 4 sm! 1.50 a lb.   plus  a mini watermelon 2.49 and a vidalia onion 1.19, should have gone to a veggie market store instead.

Went to safeway today since we were low on shampoo.  Have to check on the kids in the bath more...think lots is going in the tub. spent $30.49.. $8.50 on 2 mothers day cards, should have gone to the dollar store but was saving time.  Boxes of Javex powdered bleach for the unbleachables were in the discount buggy for 1.99 each so I got 3. (reg $5.99) plus couple of frozen juices, 2 bottles of the cheapest shampoo on sale, down under brand for $2.50 each, a body styling mousse from the discount shelf $2.19, romaine lettuce .69 (keeping the finches happy)  and a sub sandwich for the guys lunch tomorrow.

My one big convenice food is premade sandwiches!  safeways foot long sub sandwich for $4.59 enough for the guys lunch.  lunchmeat isn't cheap so I don't really save that much money making my own.

according to my handydandy excel spreadsheet the total is $288.05 for household/food.  I budget $500 but I think with the student I may have to go up to $600
