What's up with that?
When you can find them on sale for $1 a bag at other times. Grr. The last of my garden fresh potatoes are climbing out of there crates like some bad horror movie so they will be going in the ground! I had to buy potatoes for the first time since last July. $5 for 10 lbs, and $3 for 5 lbs. 5 lbs is about enough for 1 1/2 meals.
At that rate instant potatoes from the dollar store is cheaper.

Dear Michelle CinnamonHuskies, Potatoes have been $1/lb generally here ion San Francisco for some time. I've tried freezing tehm raw, but IT DOES NOT WORK. All the water oozes out from the frozen, raw potatoes. On the other hand, prepared potato dishes work OK,including baked ones.
I hate to see how high potatoes are right now, judging from your experience! Yours in Him, Deb

Matthew 6:25-34 Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Potatoes have been $5 a bag for 10 lbs. at Walmart for some time here. It's frustrating, to say the least. We use a lot of potatoes, so I don't often buy them at Walmart. Instead I buy them at Aldi, which usually runs about $3 for 10 lbs., unless another store has them cheaper.
You can freeze potatoes quite easily if you parboil or blanch them first. My favorite thing to do (since potatoes don't last long enough to freeze them around here) is to bake extras when I make them. Then I refridgerate them and grate for hash browns for breakfast. They are so much tastier then the "ready to cook" brands from Ore Ida, store brands. If I make mashed potaotes I make enough to hold some back for potato pancakes. If I make them scalloped, well my dh wipes them out. Anyway, I am sure that these things could be frozen, but I just never have that opportunity. LOL

I always check the sales flyers, and this week my very local grocery store (1 block away) has eggs 10 for $10, and potatoes I think 8 lbs. for $1.99. Plus milk 2 gals for $5. (They are often not compettitve, so I usually do my grocery shopping at Meijers Thrifty Acres, which is a few miles away. So was pleasantly surprised to see that this week, I can walk to the store.)
'Course, I remember when milk was $1.99 (sale price $1.79). Now a typical price is $3.09. Also, pasta! Pasta has gone from 99 cents (sale was usually 2 for $1) to $1.69. Ack! Michigander Fan
