How much space do you need for potatoes?  I guess specifically what I am wondering is how much space shoud you put between rows in you had say a row of peppers, a row of potatoes and then a row of bush beans or whatnot.  Our garden is really small and I probally could only squeeze in one row of potatoes , but wouldn't mind giving them a try.

The root system is spread out and fairly shallow. You can miss potatoes by not digging far enough away from the plant. If you plant potatoes in a feed bag with the bag lying down (splitting the center of the bag) it should be wide enough. If you planted with it upright, it's going to be rather narrow. You'll probably get a crop, but not as good a one than if you'd planted with more width than depth - just from my experience.

Thanks Pat.  Actually that M.E.N. article was one I read when thinking about planting potatoes.  Almost ordered from woodprairie.com, but decided to look at a locally-owned MI market store first, where I got my strawberry plants.  My one potatoe in a bag is w/the bag upright.  The intention was to roll up the bag sides as you mound up.  My potatoes in boxes are in larger sized boxes.  Hopefully I'll get a decent crop, and if they don't store that well... well I can always give some away to family/friends.

This is not official, Amy, but I'v always allowed 2 to 3 feet between rows and more between the plants. The rows always get covered over with the plants so it's hard to walk down, but they grow ok like that. If you have room, give them a little more. They'll grow closer than is convenient to work with.
