My sister has used both and prefers the pressure cooker as she is a very last minute person.  I have not used a pressure cooker because I do not own one.  I have had my crock pot for 30 YEARS!!!!! and use it several times a week.  I like to put the items in before leaving for work and knowing that dinner is ready for dh and dd when they get home.  Not exactly the input you were looking for but just a quick reply to get the ball rolling here .

I did have both, but since I only used the pressure cooker twice, I've since gotten rid of it.  I love my crockpot.  I love the "fix and forget about it" type cooking.  I use the crockpot at least once a week.

Dear All, Since I have almost always worked from home when I have worked, I found that the CrockPot that I had went unused, & I finally gave it away.  On teh other hand, I had coveted a pressure cooker/canner.  I finally got one about a month ago.  I haven't yet used it for either purpose, but am looking forward to it mightily.  I have found a recipe for making grape jelly from juice, which I want to cook because, by mistake, I bought a half-gallon of Kosher white grape juice instead of Concord.  I want to use it up somehow, & jelly seems like the best bet.  SO, that will be my 1st excursion into canning.

Honestly I've never used a pressure cooker before, but I use my crock pot at least once a week. Its so nice to come home to the smell of dinner bubbling away in the crock.  And because dear bf gets home about 1-2 hours before me, he can have a little bit of whatever's in the crock to tide him over until its actually dinner time. (Thank goodness that boy's not afraid of leftovers! I know a lot of girls who can't get their guy to eat leftovers and I just scratch my head)

On holidays it comes in handy to make an extra side dish and not take up a burner or spot in the oven. And for parties there's nothing easier than throwing a roast in the crock and putting out a platter of subrolls and fixings and turning out an easy french dip or bbq beef/pork sandwich spread. Or even better and nice big plate of falling-off-the-bone ribs. Mmmm... Big Smile

I haven't used a pressure cooker in years, but when I did I used it to make stew more than anything else. It made quick work of the stew and it came out so tender and delicious. I have a crockpot/slowcooker and I use it at least once a week, if not more. I guess I prefer the crockpot, but would like to have a pressure cooker again.

Well, I loved my crock-pot but since I have found that most leach lead into the food, I have given it up.  I am saving up for a pressure cooker.

It depends upon the circumstances. I prefer the crock pot, because on Sundays we travel about 70 miles round trip to and from church. We are away from home about five hours, and very hungry when we arrive. With the crock pot cooking the main entree, we are able to sit down to a traditional Sunday meal. I don't think that most of the meals would work for someone to be gone for much more time then that. Except for beans, most meats cook within three to five hours. Soups would work, but as I had mentioned in another post, they crock pots are too small for our soup eating family.

I haven't used the pressure cooker for many years. After you prepped the meal, brought it to rocking, timed it, quickly briought the temperature down to open it and then finished preparing the meal, I didn't think it was worth the bother. My mother always thought it was great, but I could make another meal choice in approximately the same time. I have a selection of quick "emergency meals" that take even less time.

In the end, it depends upon your meal choices, cooking styles, and time.

That would mean the crock was glazed with lead based paint. There are test kits you can buy to test for led. Where did you come across this information?

I first heard about it on another forum.  Especially disturbing to me was the info about cooking some dried beans, which I just loved to do.  Here is some info from wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crock_pot

It is also my understanding that not one major manufacturer will have an independent analysis to prove they are actually lead free.  The only 2 models that are zero lead are a glass crock and also a stainless steel crock.  Both of these are too costly for me, but can be ordered through amazon.
