Hi Effie Mae, What is a salvage store? Is it like a discount food store?

They buy bulk lots of slightly damaged, discontinued, seasonal & sometimes out-of-date items. In a regular grocery if a box of say, soups, is broke open during transport the store will not accept that item... the whole box is considered damaged. Or if one jar of something in a box, like jelly, is broken the store rejects the whole case. These are the types of things that the salvage store buys. Or if a store is removing a particular brand/item & is no longer going to carry it they often sell it to salvage. They DO sometimes have out-of-date items so you have to watch your dates but many things are still okay beyond the date on the package. You just have to be a savvy shopper.

Thanks Effie Mae. We had one of these stores where I am from in California called the canned food warehouse. Unfortunately for me where me and my family are located now in Tennessee is an upscale area ( we are on a tight budget ) and it is hard to find stores with good deals. My best bets are Kroger and Walmart. There is an Aldi in Nashville, but the drive would outweigh the savings in my gas guzzler. :(

Excellent deal at Walgreens today.  My daughter is in pull ups (hopefully not for long) but they have the store brand pull-ups for $5.99 a jumbo pack.  When you buy three you get a $5 dollar register reward (like cash towards your next purchases).  But there is also a coupon in their easy saver book for $5 off purchase of two.  When you apply to the bill it takes $2.50 off a pack.  So I bought 3 packs for $11.90 and I got back $5 dollars to use on my next purchase.  Super cheap for training pants.
