Bill, do you recommend tithing?  On my annual Social Security income of $12,336, I should be giving $1,234, but I actually onlly give in teh neighborhood of $110 -- more only if I feel secure.  Many Christian financial advisors recommend tithing -- I'm Jewish & we recommend it too, although it is done by Jewish Community Centers & our synagogues basing dues on 10% of annual income.  I am officially unaffiliated, as I don't feel that I have the money to give.  (I attend synagogue regularly, but the JCC isout of my means.)  Can we have a (short) sideline thread on tithing?

Yes!  Please do- sometimes I think it's silly to tithe when we are making less then church workers are, but that's probably selfish, or kind of weird to think about- but I like to give some and do the adopt a bill occasionally, but we do not get close to tithing!  We do pay lots for education- for the Lutheran school affiliated with our church, and I serve on the school board and co-chair a gala once a year that brings in tons of money for the school- we started an endowment fund with this and it is up to $100,000 in two years.  Anyway, I know that's off topic.  This month I did school board, made dinner for two families with med problems, and gave some maternity clothes away- I try to do something nice- does this count as I'm using my time and talents, and less of my treasures?

    Looking for feedback-
