Walmart sells 5 flour sack towels for five dollars. I've seen them cropping up at grocery stores as well but if you're up to pay for shipping and don't have a Walmart in your area, they do ship (also you can find ANYTHING on Amazon or Drugstore.com). I wash them with a tiny bit of bleach, soda crystals and a little laundry detergent. They come up white every time and never rip!
I won't use anything else so I've got about 20 of the buggers!
RE: Do you make wood polish in batches or only enough for the one job?
I do the same thing but with car wax from the dollar store. Car wax has silicone in it as does furniture polish. I have an old sock now and then and once I've got the wax on it, I keep it in a jar and reuse it over and over until it goes in the trash. Talk about being raised by a penny pincher!
