Ariana, jelly is so easy to make. You can learn. You will have to come visit across the river. I will give you a lesson. If you ever make it over here, let me know. Seriously, buy a box of sure jell or Ball pectin. The directions are very clear and easy to understand. Babs

Woo Hoo! re-tired!!  : )   My Rutgers tomatoe seeds (indoors) just sprouted... now I'm anxiously awaiting my peppers.  They seem to be taking so long to sprout, but maybe because we keep our heat down.

Re jellies - I started with strawberry freezer jam.  Very easy.  One set makes 5-6 jelly jars.  I'll never go back to store bought.  When I taste store jam now, it seems horrible to me.

Y'all will soon tire of this but it's a first time for me to try so it's all wonderful to me!

I have 9 starter pots of okra and all of them have sprouts now.  One even has two!

There are 5 squash sprouts and 4 cukes.  I can see little greenies in my carrot pots and 2 Arkansas Traveller tomatoes and 1 Tiny Tom tomato.  I still don't see any action from the bell peppers or sweet banana peppers and my micro tomato plant isn't peeking up yet but the packet did say 9 to 14 day germination on it.

I cannot wait to actually get fresh veggies.  We had chef salads last night and the tomatoes were just tasteless!

Hopefully we'll get some dry weather this week so I can set out my lettuces and radishes.

Been starting vegetables, herbs and flowers from seed for years and it never gets old!  The wonderment is still there when that first little seedling pops up!

I currently have several herbs, and just seeded some tomatoes and flowers today (I'm alittle behind).  Planted some lettuce, radishes and onions today- the soil FINALLY dried out.

Hope everyone has a great gardening season!

    Pat:

I make containers from newspaper and plant the whole thing.

I used this idea in the past 2 weeks for peas.  Tried finding innoculent, but didn't find it, so I started peas in a paper towel in a dish with some water.  Once the root sprout started coming out, I made newpaper cups around small square pots, then stuck them in the pots.  Filled the bottom with good potting soil mixed with some peat, and the top half got seed starter mix.  Planted the peas and they are starting to sprout!  Soon I'll be planting the newspaper pea cups in a bed outside.  Thanks for this idea!

BYW, for the first time I bought Red Pontiac (certified) seed potatoes.  I've read about planting in cardboard boxes (filling with layers of mulch and dirt).  I want to try this.  Never grew potatoes before, so if anyone has tried the cardboard box method or has any tips or pointers, let me know.

We lost all of our seedlings.  It's still just too cold for them.  We're expecting a freeze again tonight.  Everything is gone except for a couple of bell peppers and 1 banana pepper and it's going fast.  We've got them back in the bathroom but I think we're too late.

I still have some seeds so I'll try again!
