Re: Thifty Tuesday May 27th $$$$$$$$$$$$ Stretching

Argh, I'm so annoyed. We've lived at our current rental for 2 years and are up for renewal. The landlord has kept our rent stable, but we've been paying an extra $100 a month since December to pay for installing new sod in the backyard. (The yard was a complete waist-high bramble/weed jungle from the previous tenants and we were sick of trying to keep the weeds at bay, so we agreed to pay for part of the lawn). On top of this, we've been paying an extra $40 a month to have a gardener keep the backyard looking *** and span. We did all of this because we didn't want to deal with lawn maintenance and because we figured she wouldn't have the gall to raise our rent after we helped pay to improve her property. Nevermind the fact that I've spent a lot of money and time fixing up the house with new contact paper in the cabinets and replacing old knobs, etc to make it a nice home. The previous renters had been students who'd never done a lick of cleaning or maintenance on the property and completely destroyed it before they left, so you'd think we'd be a little more appreciated.

Well I guess the landlord got used to getting that extra sod money from us because now she's raising the rent by $100! She knows I'm pregnant and due at the end of the summer (our lease ends in July) so I bet she's banking on the fact that I don't want to deal with a move in the middle of the 110 degree heat. I'm planning on a longer, unpaid maternity leave so money is already going to be tight as it is. Oh I'm just so mad I could spit.

HOT HOT HOT....I just moved my car to the covered carport..I was loading up for a trip to the care facility to see Auntie M after work tomorrow and it's105 outside...now thats hot enough but due to the asphalt my car show's that the temp at my vehicle is 112.

I got the Motorola Solutions legal team approval for my POA .such a blessing...I called 1st thing this morning to request the documentation I need for the state funding for Auntie M's care facility...and also her state caseworker is willing to give a 10 day extention so have a 9 days left for the documents to get here and I will fax directly to the caseworker.

It's 87 inside with no air on but every ceiling fan in use..and will get to a low of 74 tonight so maybe I can do one more day without ac ...that's my plan....and will pay any extra ..pennies ..nickles.. dimes.. quarters and dollars on the principal of the home loan...always looking toward the furture and retirement.

    Take care- deb in az

What a nice Memorial Day weekend it was-the weather was fantastic here. I'm so excited my cucumbers are up-I tried both a vine variety and a bush type. I also started flower seeds in cut in-half gallon milk jugs and they are growing really well on the southside of our house. I will wait to transplant a few more weeks.

Today I was at work-had a meeting where the lunch was included. Nice...I will take the left overs from dinner tonight for lunch tomorrow. We make a pork roast-added a glaze with maple syrup as the base and added a few spices. Enjoyed new potatoes with parsley butter. My SIL gave us asparagus that they grew...wow was that good.

I got the laundry done, folded, and ironing completed. DH is working working on rebuilding part of the deck, he is trying to do a little bit every night.

DS is moving out. It's part of his plan and I'm so proud of him now that he landed a full time job. I keep gathering goodies that I got as "deals" and he is just thrilled to get the stuff and I'm glad I can help him.

DH and I continue to watch our spending and track all expenses. We have a plan and goal for what we see on the horizon. I got some disappointing news at work so I just keep forging ahead and don't get caught in the gossip.

    Have a frugal day.

    MRSOBRIEN...

Oh that is so unfair and unkind....I'm so sorry you have to deal with an $$ increase...after haveing a workable financial plan...I would be angry too in your situation ...

MRSOBRIEN, don\t you have a rentalsman association in the US that regulates how much landlords can raise the rent by?  Here in Canada they can only raise it so much per year 5% I think?  Not too sure but maybe look into that.  I'd also remind her about you paying so much a month towards the new sod and the gardener. That is pretty darn mean if you ask me.  Check and see if you can find somewhere else to rent, that would teach her.  As you say a good tenant gone bye bye.  Sally

Sometimes it pays to live in a tourist destination. We've been able to score some great freebies, deals and steals from hotels that are upgrading their furnishings. thanks to a tip from DH's cousin, who works at a hotel, we were able to get two mirrors with beveled edges, nice sturdy frames, approximately 5ft x 2ft. Total price $25 for the pair. There is no way I would have been able to buy mirrors of that size or quality for $12.50 on sale locally Went shopping with my daughters today. DD22 and I got sandals on sale - 50% off.

Reviewed our check book this evening with an eye toward reducing monthly expenses. I found three expenses to reduce or eliminate. A rental insurance policy expense of $33.41 per month is being automatically deducted for a home we moved out of one year ago. We are paying for 10 gigs on cell phone plan while we are only using 5 gigs or less per month. Reducing the gigs to 5 or 6. Will save at least $40.00 per month. Eating lunch at our office cafe is costing $100.00 or more per month. I will cancel the rental policy, reduce the cell phone gigs and plan to reduce lunches by packing a lunch from home which should cut eating at work by 50percent. Review your bank statement to see what changes you can make to reduce monthly expenses!
