Re: Purim is coming! Hold on to your 3-cornered hats!

There is a storng belief in the Evangelical church that many of  the things happening are signs of the end of time. That would include the terroist attacks, wars, famine, earthquakes and Israel being established agian as a nation.  there are many scriptures that the church feels supports this belief. Old Testament prophesys in Jeremiah, Isaiah, and others. One of the main Ndew Testament  ones is Matthew 24. Jesus is talking about how we will know when the end is near. He speaks of many of these things happening and refers to Daniel.Saying that the prophesy in Daniel will happen. If you are familer with Daniels vision of the image made of different metals. The Evangelical church believes that we are living in the day of the last kingdom ( the feet)  The kingdoms being Babylon, Greece, Medo-Persian, Roman, and then the final one ( being now with no single country in charge. The feet were made of clay and iron that is believed to the remants of the roman empire mixed with other nations of the world.  The ten toes are believed to be the revived roman empire in Europe. That would be why the Europen Union is an important group to watch.  Joel clearly speaks of the Israel's land being divided. Today, we again see the world trying to divide Israel. WE have seen people driven from their homes in Gaza. Many believe that the temple will be build again and that there will be a battle for the control of Jerusalem again. That then the Messiah will return......Revelation speaks of Him coming on a white horse with a sword to bring an end to the evil in the world. There is lots more but this is a tiny piece. Ask more if you would like and I will try to answer. Babs

Dear Babs, We Jews agree with you that the Temple will be rebuilt in Moshiach's (the Messiah's) time.  We believe, though, too, that there will be peace throughout the lands when he comes.  I think that we are one step ahead of you on this timing -- or no?

Jewish settlers in recent decades have mostly lived in Judea/Sharon, which foreigners call the "West Bank."  It's been the Israeli government that has made them leave from time to time.  (Some have lived in Gaza.)

I have heard tell of the "Antichrist."  What ro who is that?  I've heard something about its having to do with one-world governmetn.  Is that right?  But wouldn't Moshiach have to bring in one world government in order to bring peace t o all the lands?

What does your religion tell about what will happen to the Jews in the time of Moshiach?

Thank you in advance for thinking this vital topic out along with me.

    Love in Him, Deb

    Deb,

I hope you had a good Purim.  I've heard of it before, but wasn't really sure what it was about.  Thank for explaining about it.Smile

Thank you, Babs!  I don't actually wish that anyone be hanged on a gallows, it's too bloody to wish a crucificition on anyone -- G-d forbid, I know that Jesus was crucified on this ver y day early in the A.D.'s.  I just want there to be peace on earth.  I also know that teh Israeli Defence Forces are vital -- I pray in detail for them every morning, so I'm not a pacifist by any means.  A bundle of contradictions -- aren't we all!  Once again, a blessed Easter!  Love in Him, Deb

Thank you, Mom of 3.  Most of the Purim celebration is in the evening (that is/was, yesterday).  BUT, I was simply delighted to receive a goodies basket from my family precisely on today!  What good timing!

May you be blessed.  Yours in Him, Deb

Re: Purim is coming! Hold on to your 3-cornered hats!

     Deb,

You can also call the Anti-Christ the Anti-Messiah. While many have differtent beliefs on who and what he will be like, we believe that he will follow a pattern set in the Old Testament and will first present himself as if he was Messiah like Lucifer who wanted to be like G-d.  The Anti-Christ will be like at least 3 people- Nimrod, Haman and Antiochus Epiphnaies (Sp?). Anti-Christ will control a kingdom which will control much of the world if not all of it like Nimrod. He will have the power of ten kings like Haman's sons and seek to destroy the Israel. He will desecrate the future temple like Antiochus did in the Maccabeian period. He will appear to be Messiah to many for he will bring a form of peace with Israel by making a 7 year treaty of peace with Israel and her foes yet will break it in the middle of the agreement. (Daniel 9:27, Several places in Revelation) Our Church believes that when the true Messiah returns at the end of the 7 year treaty the worlds eyes will be opened and many will receive him as Messiah. Israel will then become the capital of world government and Messiah will establish his kingdom forever and rule from Zion. All the nations of the world when then have to go to Jerusalem every year to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. (Zac 12-14, Rev 20)  hope this makes sense. any more questions ask......this a lot of info....... In Him, Babs

Re: Purim is coming! Hold on to your 3-cornered hats!

Well, my dear Babs, I have too many questions for one post.  let's try to take them one at a time.  I know that Lucifer is a fallen angel.  I believe that the Devil is Lucifer?  But I don't believe this is from Hebrew Scriptures? -- Do you know where it is?  (Once again, you can easily cite much more than I of the Bible, including our Jewish Books of the Law, of Prophets, & of Writings, so it could very well be written in our Scriptures....)

I have a second question, which you didn't cover at all.  (I know that I just said that I'd only give you one question per post -- shucks!)  I've heard of the Rapture -- a belief that all saved Christians will be lifted to Heaven & be ressurected at some point.  Could you fill me in?  Orthodox Jews believe, & I believe, in ressurection in the afterlife, but we do not have any articles of faith about when this will occur.  (BTW, Judaism is a religion of action, not belief.  An atheist who follows the Law about the Sabbath, keeping Kosher, & so forth, is counted as a Jew just as much as a pious Jew who does not follow the  Law.)

TIA -- I REALLY enjoy these inter-faith postings.  Yours in Him, Deb

Deb, I will look up the story of Lucifer and get back to you. Yes, he is called the Devil or Satan. I enjoy this too. Babs
