Sunset of CA Medi-Cal (Medicaid) Buy-In Law

Dear ALl, As a person who expects in April or May to be transitioniong off regular Medi-Cal (due to my 1st income -- from writing), I had thought that I would be eligible for the working-while-disabled Medi-Cal program, which allows a "buy-in" of a reasonable price monthly.  Unfortunately, I have learned hat this program will sunset/end on 7/31.  I will of course gtake advnatage of it while it exists, but I am disalppointed that it won't stay in force. The alternative reality is a "share of cost" so high that I will not be able to take advantage of Medi-Cal at all.  Because my personal physician is not a Medi-Cal provider, I cannot count that $600 in medical payments towards my "share of cost."  Nor can the bulk of my meds -- the expensive ones -- be counted, again because Medi-Cal has never paid for them.  This is a disappointment.  As Babs likes to say, though, the L-rd opens some doors & shuts some doors, & we would both say, We trust him to show us how to enter the newly-opened ones.  I'll meet this challenge.  Yours in Him, Deb

Deb, we will pray for G'd to work in this situation for medical coverage for you. I know that some pharmacuetical companies have programs to provide free medicine for people with no insurance. Your Dr. may have information on this or the local hospital. An internet search may find some info.

    Anyone know about these programs?

Thanjk you, Babs, for your prayers.  I "went to Assumption College" & thought stupidly that everone would remember thazt I am also on Medicare.  Medicare pays for a lot of my medical expenses, basically about 65% when deductible, premiums, & co-pays are taken into account.

Since I do have Medicare, I am not eligible for the pharmaceutical companies' free medications programs.  You have to be without any kind of insurance at all.

Thank you so very much, indeed, LateNightLeader.  From tgeh site, it seems as though, if I don't receive "Extra Help" from Medicare, I may actually be eligible f a program listed on teh "needymeds" site.  However, I expect to be on "Extra Help" for the foreseeable future.  Still, if that "foreseeable" future turns out to have a timeline much shorter than I now expect, I will be ever, ever, ever so grateful to you for having pointed me in the right direction to get "needymeds."  Thank you again.  Yours in Him, Deb

It's always good to know what's out there, if not for you, Deb, maybe a neighbor or friend!  You're welcome.
