Pat, I mentioned what I do in another thread. I am not doing anything differently really, lol.

My husband is the one who drives and since it's for work, he is stuck with it but the company pays the fuel.

I have never driven and run my errands with my Mother. Instead of helping with gas, I treat her to lunch or coffee out. When I get myself stocked up more, I can eliminate some of the weekly trips we make into town.

 Well, it's not fair if you don't drive! LOL

I don't drive much at all any more, since I work at home, just a trip now and then to run errands and buy groceries, or a short trip out of town to see family. Keeping the car turned off saves a lot of gas! :)

One thing that doesn't seem to get much attention and is really easy to do, is to keep tires properly inflated. If you've ever ridden a bike with a low tire, you know how much more effort it takes than when the tire is inflated. The same happens with a vehicle engine - it has to work harder to do the same job if the tires aren't inflated enough. Check the owner's manual to see what the recommendation is. Check tires regularly because all tires leak at least a tiny bit.

 I watched as my friends got excited about learning to drive. I see my own teen doing the same. The prospect of driving always filled me with dread and I had no interest in doing it. My parents insisted I learn to as they assumed I would get my license so I actually learned the mechanics of it at 13. Through all the practice, I remained terrified and even today I can't drive faster than 10 miles an hour or handle things being around me....like other cars, dogs running by, trees along the way.

I have a fear of driving on freeways, 4 lane highways, or cities. It never used to be that way when I was younger. Now that I'm older and have children I'm responsible for, I also realize I'm not immortal lol! The freeway on ramp merging is terrifying anymore.

Well ds is NOT taking drivers ed this summer. He may take it with the homeschool group in the fall, but he will not have his job this summer like he planned to pay for it($285). The farmer he'd worked for decided because he couldn't break even on the hay after labor cost, gas and oil costs, that he was cutting back the hay production to just what he and his family can handle without having to pay for outside labor. Otherwise they used to hire several youths to help hay.

So now ds will have to get a work permit and find another job this summer. Or do without drivers ed for another year. After trying to teach him a 5 speed recently waiting a year would not be a bad thing LOL!

I know what you mean, cinnamonhuskies. I don't like to drive in traffic or on the interstate where speed limits are high. I used to drive everywhere when I was young - even whole states by myself and never thought a thing about it.

 It's a good thing you didn't pop wheelies, your Golf might have flipped completely over from front to back! :)
